if you use your pc for gaming you do not need more than 4 gb ddr2 or ddr3
if you get new graphic card now
it will of course be bottlenecked by your cpu
but bottleneck is always present in every pc, it is only a matter when it really affects you pc's performance

it all depends when are oyu planing to upgrade again
you might want to get better graphic card now if you plan to upgrade the rest soon

for example you could get one gtx460 now and when you upgrade your cpu you can add another gtx 460 and run them in sli

Well sorry to say some of the posts on this thread are recommending things that are absolutely not needed. I will give you a complete solution to what you should do. Lets get a few things cleared up.... A q6600 should not noticeably bottleneck any video card even at stock speeds. Yes it is old but not old enough to make a powerful graphics card not worth it. In fact if you look here http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/62 you get a general idea that your processor would limit WoW to around 60 frames which is around your monitors refresh rate.... SO your CPU is JUST FINE! I would absolutely upgrade to win7 64bit too btw. IF you don't you will not be able to see more than about 3.5 GB of ram.

First off I would recommend a decent but not overkill graphics card.... a GTX 460 would do the job beautifully for $160

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130591

You most likely will want a little more ram. WOW will chew up a little over 2 gb so I would get another 2gb kit to compliment your current 2 for $35

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148163

And last a good PSU to handle your graphics card is recommended. Don't let people fool you on recommending over powered PSU's. There is NO reason to have a 600W+ PSU for a single graphics card setup. I would go with this guy a 550W SeaSonic OEM for $70

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371020

This setup should get you playing WOW in no time and is well under $500. There is no need to get anything crazy or to overclock your CPU for this purpose. If you follow my recommendations you will be more than happy with your result.

I agree with some of the other posters. You don't need a new cpu. I have the same one and it does just fine. I oced it to 3.6 GHz, but I only lost a few fps when it was running stock. So you will see some improvement if you oc it, but even if you don't it won't ruin your experience, its up to your preference.

As others have suggested, a nice gtx 460 would be perfect for you, sure the 560 ti and 570 are much more powerful, you really don't need that much horsepower. Get 2 GB more ram and move to a x64 bit os to fully utilize it. Windows 7 x64 being the obvious choice here... well as far as gaming is considered anyways, I use Ubuntu for everything other than gaming . Get a new psu if you can. You really only need something between 500w to 600w for a single card. If you can get something higher, say around 750 - 850ish watts, then that will open the road for sli if you want.

Other than that, you are all set .

Would that be enough ? or should i get a 1 gig which will probably cost me about $50 more. I'm using 27" monitor btw

can you pick me a good video card please? there are too many to choose from and i just can't tell which is better. i'm sorry about my poor knowledge on GPUs btw.

This was the exact plan I followed coming from my Q6600 setup. A 460 will be strong enough to max all WoW settings and play in DX11 mode, however even with your cpu OC'd you will see framerate dips here and there (especially in the cities).

WoW is a very poorly optimized game as far as multithreading is concerned. Still, it should improve your gaming experience quite a bit!

I would get that. Its a bit cheaper and the twin frozr II is an awesome cooler. I don't think the 1 GB 460s are that much more powerful, and I don't think its worth a $50 premium, but that is just me. Besides, I don't think you are going to need the extra vram in most of the current games.

I would disagree. The 1G model pulls away from the 768 at 1080p. The 768 version can run into VRAM issues at that res, and it has a smaller 192-bit bus.

Oh, um... didn't realize op was at 1080p . Then ya, the 1 GB would be better, especially when you crank up the AA. Get 2 in sli sometime in the future, and you will be all set. And yeah, WoW is seriously horribly optimized, so don't expect to see all the fps dips to go away.
