i7 920 vcore eater

Thread Starter
Well, had my i7 920 to 3.6 ghz stable - or so I thought for about a week now. I This morning it wouldn't start up the monitor again. My vcore is at 1.26, I pass p95 for 10hrs, LinX 50 runs, OCCT 2 hours. I don't know why my chip won't work with me, I was at 3.8ghz before stable for a few weeks and the monitor problem came up too. I seem to be able to stay at 3.3ghz 1.1vcore just fine. What would you guys do from here? I'm thinking of selling it.

uhhh?
check the temps?
maybe the temp might have been too high and increased CPU degradation.
There seem cases to have a very fast cpu degradation but they are rare

List all your BIOS setting and we can get a better idea of what is going on with your OC.

My temps are fine, I never hit over 70 degrees on 100% load. I'm usually sitting at an average of 65-66 degrees running P95. 3.6ghz is a fairly generous OC isn't it?

Vcore 1.26v
BCLK 172
DRAM frequency at 1379mhz
DRAM at 1.65v
CPU differential amp - 800mv
QPI - 1.2v

3.6Ghz is an alright OC, that is what I have mine running at 24/7 however at significantly less volts. Have you tried raising the VTT volts? When OCing to 4 stable I put mine to match the voltage. You might want to bump the VTT up just a bit. Also, what is the rated speed of your ram? You should put your ram multiplier at 8x and have your uncore at least twice that. Set your QPI to 36x.
what happens if you bump the vcore to 1.3v?

Amazing you would need it for only 3.6Ghz but give it a try.

Are the rest of your voltages/settings set manually?
Try to raise VTT a notch or two and test again

What is your PLL @ ?

PLL made a huge difference for me, if I lower it any I can not stay stable
post #9 of 16
Thread Starter
PLL is at 1.8, QPI is at 1.2.

My RAM is rated at 1600mhz, 7-8-7-20.

I know that 1.26v is strangely high for 3.6ghz. Most people are hitting 4ghz. My chip really hates me. I followed Clunk's guide to OCing. It's just strange that I can run this thing on all the stress tests no prob..but I can't pass a cold boot now.

Maybe follow this and do a bit more reading, this is the guide I used to get to 4.2 and I have also hit 4.5 but was just to much for my H50 at the time, I plan on doing 4.5 once I get time to play with my OCs again
