Tri-Sli w/Triple Monitor - all on one card?

Thread Starter
I was wondering if anyone had experience with tri-sli and three monitors. Basically, I've noticed that when SLI is enabled with two cards, only the monitors attached to the first card will work. So, if I use two displays via dvi, then use hdmi for the main monitor, will I be seeing all the performance gains of Tri-sli?

I ask because I'm switching over from 2d surround. With that, if I wanted to enable SLI aka "Maximize 3d performance" it would cut off the display that wasnt on the first card. If I "[activated] all displays", the control panel would inform me that I wasn't getting the full benefit of SLI.

Essentially I'm planning on running a single 2560x1600 monitor in the middle as my primary display (using the hdmi port), then two monitors in portrait on the sides for web browsing etc (running from dvi ports 1 and 2). I just want the 3d performance gains on the center 2560x1600.

For clarification - I'm currently running SLI 470's, however, I'm adding another and didn't know if SLI/Tri-sli handle this differently

I believe Nvidia doesnt support triple monitors - only dual monitors.

Nope it does up to three.

OP Something is wrong if you can only connect monitors to the first card. I am running SLI'd 470's as well and have one monitor connected to the first via HDMI, and two conencted to my second card one via HDMI and one DVI. Running res of 5670x1080

It works fine with surround mode. What I meant was, for the games that didn't support 2d surround, I'd switch the driver to "maximize 3d performance" which would disable anything on the second card.

what games are you talking about? Almost every game I have works with the surround mode except for SC2 which doesn't support it. Also the maximize 3D performace kicks it out of surround mode, it is supposed to do that as that is just the enable SLI. Surround is a special mode of SLI.

I play company of heroes quite frequently and it really doesn't agree with 2d surround. It has the same issues as SC2. The UI just doesn't work with it.

Dead Space was a treat in 2d surround, but I've decided that overall I prefer a large single display rather than 2d surround. Personal preference I guess.

Well then unforutantly NVIDIA isn't as nice as ATi is when it comes to switching between the three monitors, and one. Tri SLI will not change this for you. Your best bet is to try and sell off your three monitors and pick up a new monitor.

With ATI you can hot key switching from eyefinity and single display mode. With NVIDIA you can switch to maximize 3D performace and then switch back, but you have to re-adjust everything, and I don't think you have to with eyefinity. I could be wrong with that. None the less, NVIDIA drivers will work the same with SLI or TRI SLI and TBH I don't even think you can connect more monitors to a surround setup when you go to TI SLI.
