Tri-Sli w/Triple Monitor - all on one card? - Page 3

Thread Starter
So triplehead2go is the only way to have three monitors on one card? Having it all on one card isnt important if there's a way to fully utilize sli and have three monitors enabled. All I want is SLI as it was intended (using multiple gpu's to increase performance on one display). Only the center 2560x1600 monitor is going to be used for gaming, the other two will be internet mules. Adding another GPU when I've already got three isn't something I'd like to do.

I don't even think the triplehead will do what you want. According to product spec's page the three monitors have to be the same res, there for you can't can the side two in land scape. Honestly I think two way SLI and a third card is the only way you are going to get what you want. Also i could be wrong on this, but I do think that triplehead2go see's the monitors as one like NVIDIA surround and eyefinity.

yeah but NVIDIA surround requires SLI, so yes 2 per GPU, but NVIDIA GPU's can run more than 2 monitors, thus NVIDIA Surround

you will want to plug 1 monitor into each card for the best performance. I ran benches with the cards attached to 2 and then 3 cards. When each monitor was on its own card there was a higher fps average. Not much, but still there

Well the whole reason I bought a third 470 was to have enough juice to run 2560x1600. I was satisfied by the benchmarks I saw at that resolution with tri-sli 470s.

so what you're saying is that I can run SLI mode with one monitor per card and get all the rendering benefits of three cards?

Additionally, if it actually is required that I get another GPU seperate from the 470's to run the two monitors, would it have to be an nvidia chip?

I think I answered my OP question,

http://www.slizone.com/object/sli_mu...ml#confoptions

Looks like two monitors is all I'll get. I'll just slap a pci-e x1 in and call it a day. thanks guys.

Did you try what I suggested above?

What happens if you have sli surround on, and set the in-game resolution to that of just one monitor on the troublesome games you speak of? I could swear I've read that does exactly what you're looking for, at least on some games.

StarCraft 2, Mirror's Edge, Mass Effect 2, StarWars The Force Unleashed II. Those games will not work at my resolution (5960x1200). I've also had issues with freezing in Medal of Honor: Airborne.

As far as I know, triple monitors would only be on the DUAL GPU cards. Because most GPU's now split the HDMI & DVI channel.
The link he provided has a plethora of fantastic info on widescreen and multi-monitor gaming. I'm a member there as well.

And Tri-SLI won't change your scenario in any way I'm afraid, sorry.

I've not run surround/triple monitor but I just have to wonder ... what happens if you just set these troublesome games to run at the res of just your main monitor ... will it run on just that one, or does it stretch? I'd have to think there's some chance it would be the former, but again, just a guess ...
Depending on the game, I can just leave the res set @ 1920x1200 and it'll run on my middle monitor and my other two will power down until I'm done playing. Others will try and stretch.

I've read that TripleHead2Go will only support up to 5040x1050. That may have changed.

It depends on the game. It's nice when games like FarCry 2 have a 'Widescreen Aspect' checkbox and it'll compensate for the extra resolution, otherwise it'll stretch or squish (if 1920x1200 and box is checked).

Yes, this works if you have surround on but wants to play at max on just one of the monitors.
I am playing that way on games which doesn't support surround well enough.
