So where would I find a manual on overclocking and how to do it?
Sorry I should have clarified I didn't mean to direct that toward you but more so to people telling you to mod your case. While its a good idea and definitely something enjoyable its not necessary. Just go the overclocking route and show them that you took a relatively cheap processor and made it perform like a much more expensive one. They'll be amazed lol.

check the stickies in the amd and even the intel section to get a good idea on overclocking. Are you settled on an amd processor?

Benchmarking is the nerd equivilent of bench pressing.

I actually get my last few pieces from ups tomorrow. So tomorrow night around 8 o'clock I will be putting the computer together. I went with the AMD phenom X6 1090.

overclocking is simple and varies a little from amd to intel processors. You just adjust some settings in the BIOS. There are plenty of guides online on how to do it. Starting off you may just overclock without adjusting the voltage. Get as high as you can without changing the voltage and test it.

Here are some tools i use when im testing overclocks,

Prime95 - It allows me to max out my cpu usage on all of my cores. I usually use 8-12 hour test to check for stability. Also i use this to help produce max heat out of my processor to check my temperatures.

CPU-Z - This program shows your processor details and what speeds it runs at. It also shows your ram and motherboard info as well.

GPU-Z - This program shows the details of the graphics card you have installed.

3DMark 06 - This was one benchmark i used to use, I havent really done much lately.

Other benchmarking tools People use, 3DMark Vantage, Uniengine??

Basically benchmarking is to test how powerful your computer set up is and can compare your results to other computers that have done the same test.

If you have a dedicated graphics card, there are different tools you can use to overclock it. I just use AMD's Catalyst Control Center to overclock. I dont really overclock my gpu much as I didn't really see much of a difference for the raise in temperature.

Everything you need for building a rig and OCing it is right here. And you could easily burn 15+ hours building a popper rig, clocking it and running bench tests. You should graph the bench tests as you increase the clock to show improved performance, and note temperature and stability issues.

I think the last overclock and unlocking I did overtime on my 720BE scooped 30-40 odd Hrs, cable management can easily soak up 4+ Hrs because you are always finding better ways to route the cables.
But the overclocking, stability testing and benchmarking will take that time a chew it up.

Also just grab a window kit, 1+ Hrs installation.

The case you picked out isn't that great. I suggest looking at the NZXT m59 or storm scout

I couldn't read through all the people's suggestions as most were just ramblings.... A good way to make your senior project have 15+ hours of work is to DOCUMENT it. Grab a video camera and make a tutorial on how to build the computer. Don't edit out the parts when you can't figure out how to open a box, fumbling through a manual for that one piece of info that you need, grabbing a paper towel and duct tape when you case slices your finger open. The best way to do this would be not just to show how to build the computer and what the parts are....but WHY to build a computer and HOW the parts do what they do. Tons of research can be put into this. I did my senior project on how to play Mary Had a Little Lamb on the base guitar. 25 pages long report and a 15 minute speech. 70+ hours of work time on it. I didn't think I did that much until I put it all together. It was fun for me to learn the base and to hang out with my math teacher (who taught me the base).

Take this time to further your knowledge of computers and have some fun with it... and please if you say ASUS in your report.... learn to say it right!
