Don't feel sorry for me, I had no plans to buy BD anyway, unless it was so good, so cheap it was impossible to resist. That combination was / is never likely to happen.

you can laugh nonstop, but you cant hide the truth

"cine-bent R10" was known as "AMD cpus hater" (in terms of scores)

With cine-bent R11.5 are some improvements, but i´m not sure if that benchmark is 100% fair..

Balla, please stop acting like you dont know what this is about.. Intel is company with very dirty past, and they will do anything to be on top.

What a "performance boost", only need "rename" CPUID to GenuineIntel®..
This is just one of the milion reasons, why i HATE synthetic bent-marks

Gotta agree with you there. While intel makes great chips most of the time they do some real sleazy things on the business side. As far as companies go I do prefer AMD but sadly I don't think I will buy another chip from them until they pull off another socket a/socket 939.(Which I am really hoping bulldozer could be, but I'm not going to get over hyped on rumors and speculation.)

"AMD's Monolithic Quad Core Barcelona to outperform Intel's by over 40%"

More like, "Barcelona was outperformed by 40% compared to Intel's Clovertown/Kentsfield"
Those CPUs had the TLB bugged, if you remember.

Phenom II was what they were supposed to be, and not by a 40%, but by a fair margin they did beat Kentsfields.

AMD doesn't need to jump a generation now, they need to jump TWO generations. The original Phenoms made them lose that generation, so they need to skip the "match those Sandies" and instead go with "Kill those Sandies, match the Ivies".

It's hard, but if they manage to jump 1.5 gens, then they can be satisfied. Intel has never been able to.

Intel typically releases the die shrink exactly one year after the actual CPU, hence, we'd see Ivy Bridge in Q1 2012, not Q3 2011.

My personal prediction (without any math involved) is 5.5Ghz+ all cores on air, 8Ghz+ on LN2... of course that's me, but still
That depends, really, I think the 32nm node and the 45nm node are great for OCing and it's not just Intel's architecture that clock well (Hence why Thuban based Phenom IIs can clock around as well as a Nehalem on a good node, heck, even the latest Denebs can as well, a lot of people just set it at 4Ghz and never go higher but I've seen a lot of people get 4.2Ghz with ease and 4.5Ghz on a good chip, just like Nehalem)

I don't doubt we'll see 5Ghz on Bulldozer, but the first stepping might suck at OCing compared to the second ala Deneb.

Why not simply release the processor at those speeds?
Because it can't fit in the TDP with all those cores easily, going past the rated TDP with turbo for a minute or two or until the temperature goes past a certain value works though.

It was a great architecture let down by using heavily Athlon64 based cores, they rushed it out as fast as they could because iirc the planned successor (Fusion) wasn't anywhere near completion due to delays.

Die shrink for SB? New architecture too.

The 6c Intel is the die shrink, and Ivy Bridge is a dieshrink.

One of the big things that AMD won in the court case against Intel (Apart from Intel paying off OEMs to not use AMD chips when AMD had the better chip by far) was that the Intel compiler adds code to every application compiled with it to automatically not enable stuff like SSE, SSE2, SSE3, etc when it detects the CPUID tag of "AuthenticAMD" or whatever the VIA one is, someone changed the CPUID in their VIA CPU to the AMD one and got a minor performance increase, then they changed it to the Intel one and doubled the stock performance.
Proof.
Note that yes, Phenom II is slower than Nehalem...But I have a feeling that if Intels compiler was thrown into the trash and they used the GCC one or something instead, Phenom II would be a lot closer to Nehalem.

Ivy Bridge is just a dieshrink, no need to worry about it other than higher stock clocks (Overclocking doesn't matter so much to them) and higher core counts really, the IPC won't be more than 5%-10% faster due to small optimizations.

And Intel did jump 1.5 gens, the Pentium 4 to the Core 2 Duo. (Although it just made up for the non-existent Pentium II to Pentium III jump, all they did was add SSE.)

I know, when I had read it I took it as him saying increasing the speed of the cpu itself, not literally speeding up production. I just didn't take the time out to edit it since it was so far up the thread.

Things 24/7 overclocks should remember...

Sandy Bridge is 13-19% clock for clock faster than first gen core series chips.

When compared to the C0 stepping release of the core i series most sandy bridge chips are clocking 1000-1400 MHz higher for day to day overclocking.

The difference between 1156/1366 and 1155 is pretty huge at the end of the day, and it puts a big hurt on AMD because almost nothing is ready for 8 cores.

What epeen? I've never owned the fastest anything. Not that I think owning an inanimate object, one of maybe millions, created by someone else, some how gives you kudos.

All the epeen of Sandy Bridge goes to it's designers and engineers...any idiot can walk into a shop or click a link and buy it.
