The difference between 1156/1366 and 1155 is pretty huge at the end of the day, and it puts a big hurt on AMD because almost nothing is ready for 8 cores.
Actually, you are only wrong in a few points...

There are quite a few apps that will immediately take advantage of the extra cores, though, I'm fairly sure you have to have to have instructions installed on your computer to immediately take advantage of the extra cores..

Windows 7 is ready for more cores with the instructions installed..

(From what I have read - but don't quote me on this.)

It puts a big hurt on AMD is not 100% correct either..

It puts a big hurt on AMD... IF Bulldozer does not deliver as we are expecting.

I wouldn't be so quick to think or say AMD or Bulldozer is a fail now, though their past has looked pretty sad, they may still yet hold the crown with Bulldozer... (& In more than one platform too!)

=========================

One thing everyone needs to be aware of is Ivy Bridge is bringing more than just a die shrink to the table, make sure you are aware of what it is..

According to early roadmap details, Intel is estimating that Ivy Bridge will offer a 20 percent CPU performance advantage over Sandy Bridge

On the graphics side we'll see support for DirectX 11 and OpenCL 1.1, and Intel is targeting a 30 percent graphics performance boost compared to Sandy Bridge

Ivy Bridge will have twice the number of parallel processors, which Intel calls "execution units".

(NOTE: I'm going to post more, need to find some of the stuff I read earlier, but if anyone has more to add please do!)

Ivy Bridge is worth waiting for in my eyes, however, knowing Intel it will be insanely overpriced.. meh!

Why for god sake SB was not released as dualcore ?? It would overclock higher...
I remember, it wasnt so long time ago, when intel tell us: nobody needs dualcore, everything is /will be singlethreaded
------------
Modern USB2.0 keys have speeds of 486DX2-66 memory bandwindth.. (20-30MB/s)

Or another example: my Ontario netbook has DOUBLE flops performance @ only 9W TDP, than AthlonXP 1,25GHz ~60W TDP

YEAH.. Technical progress is moving forward

I don't need to multi-task while playing games thou.

And my current i5-2500k is faster than a 4.5Ghz Phenom II x6, in multi-tasking bentmarks... So I'm good there, its not like the x6 is slow by any stretch.

I'm not looking at sandy bridge x6/x8 chips, nor AMDs, it has nothing to do with branding in this case.

My next upgrade will probably be a 8 core, but since I still play a lot of games that are dual threaded having 8 cores does nothing for me currently.

Have you got it back then? I thought they gave you a refund and now your desktop-less?

Or is your laptop faster than a Thuban at 4.5Ghz in multi-tasking?

There's a saying that somethings only as strong as it's weakest part, i'd rather have a workhorse than a race horse.

Nah I haven't got it back yet, I got refunded already by newegg but superbiiz hasn't done anything with my board. I still need to wait to see if they refund or replace before I move forward.

I only sent my stuff in because I wanted to take advantage of the sata2 issue and try for a higher clocking chip.

My laptop would get creamed by a Thuban

I like that saying, it applies to the Thubans single thread performance. I'd rather have faster cores than 50% more slower ones

Thats an ultra running mantra. Read it as "the Hare and the Tortoise".

Sadly in this game the hare finishes the race in less than 7 seconds whereas the tortoise needs 15 seconds or more

The stats on this LinX run made my mouth fall open... (Stable too!)

Sandy Bridge is like the Mothership currently for Intel, unfortunately it pretty much makes i7-9XX worthless at the same time too..

Bulldozer has to bring the bomb or sadly it may be over for AMD, and with all of the executives resigning, I fear the worst, unfortunately, they need a press release SOON!!!

Or investor's may flee with fear..
