Securom

Now I've learnt that TDU2 has Securom DRM bundled with it, I had a look at what is it. 4 installs?! What the hell is that crap?! After hearing this, I went looking at my games to see if Securom was also present on them. I found that Batman, Crysis and GTA4 have Securom. I've installed Crysis a good number of times and I've changed my motherboard twice since I bought Crysis.

Can someone explain what Securom does with its 4 installs?

I would also like to know, TDU2 should be here on thursday for me and im most likely gonna reformat this year, Im hoping its like sacred 2 where you just download a simple revoke tool to get your licence back.

Some dont have a revoke tool on the website so maybe theres no "4 install" option for some games. I'm guessing there will be a revoke tool for this as there was with the last game.

the implementation is different. it's what i call install-limit SecuROM which has a license key downloaded into your registry and tied to your windows install.

GTA IV has unlimited installs on the Steam edition so it's not an issue there. as for Crysis 1, it's 5 installs on the steam edition, and as far as I am awar there is no revoke tool for it, only warhead, so i haven't bought it. don't know about TDU2. as for Arkham Asylum it's the same system but you're allowed to install it several times in a certain period or something. can't remember. if i remember correctly there's also a revoke tool included.

why have securom on the steam editions, i don't know. always check your game purchases before hand to see what DRM is included. it'll say so near the metacritic rating and the notification of age rating and whether it's single or multiplayer, etc on the store page.

this is what the page looks like for Mafia II, a steamworks title (integrates with steam on retail copies)

and this is what it looks like on the Crysis page which uses SecuROM on steam.

SecuROM is one of the DRMs I remove on sight, before ever starting the game for the first time.

I don't think you can remove it but you sure can bypass it quite easily.

Ive had nothing but problem with games that use DRM. I ran into separate issues trying to activate a game with Tages and also another with GFWL. Both times I contacted their technical support it was an absolute joke and they had no idea how to fix the activation error I was experiencing and I ended up having to download a "workaround" from somewhere on the internet on my own since they refused to help any further or give me a refund for the game I couldnt play.
