My F@H client was still erroring off. "Unstable machine". I tried switching the 500W PSU between the two cards- it made no difference. Very frustrating. I'm anxious to get home and see if it finished a WU today since I left it at stock clocks.

Ps: This is my second Raidmax PSU, never had a problem with either of them. This one is fairly new (6 months old), the last one I had for over 2 years and was still in the machine when I sold it. Not a Raidmax "fanboy" or anything, just voicing my personal experience. I had assumed my problem was the PSU because it only has 2 PCIe connectors. I had to use adapters to accommodate the new card.

I wouldn't suggets running SLi/xFire on a 500w PSU unless the cards were ~$75 new. I'm assuming that this is what you were intending? mellowsmiley.gif

Oh and remember when you're Folding your PSU will be supplying PEAK power. Whatever the demands of he system are that is what your PSU should be supplying when the system is @ max load capacity for the CPU and the GPU if you are Folding on it. Check what the 80% Rating is and you should know what you can reasonably run @ Load on your system. thumb.gif

Apologies blasted Huddler glitched on me and made this a quote instead of an Edit.

Hope I didn't confuse anyone. redface.gif

From what I gathered from his post is that he is power everything in his system with the original PSU except the AMD card which is powered by the new 500 watt one. So power wise he's back to the way it was before he threw the new AMD card into the mix. How bizarre. By chance have you tried pulling the AMD card and putting everything back to the way it was and seeing if it works?

No Cead, not SLI or CFX ....I have a GTX470 that is my designated folding card. I had a good 820/1640/1700 OC on it (stable and folding without issue). I hated losing PPD though when I would game, so I bought an HD 5870 and installed it as my primary graphics (GPU 0) and move my GTX470 down (GPU 1) and it folds only now. However since the addition of the 5870, my GTX470 has only completed 1 or 2 WUs. Midday thru I get the unstable machine error and it restarts. I installed the 500W PSU outside my rig (shorting the 24-pin) and ran 2 separate PCIe connectors from it to my new card only. That's why I don't think it is a power supply issue. I have 2 power supplies on the same rig and I was still getting the error. Running the 2 seperate graphics cards independently seems to be working fine in all other aspects. It's just the folding client that is suffering (and my/teams PPD).

So the only difference for the GTX 470 is which slot it is in? Maybe pull the ol' switcharoo and have the GTX 470 back in slot 0 and AMD in slot 1 see if that changes anything?

Are you on a BIOS or UEFI system. If you're on a BIOS system it could be that your drivers are not playing nice with each other. wink.gif

For example if you got an A designate board it ran ATi/AMD and unless you did the NVidia hack you couldn't run an NVidia card reliably well. ASUS came up with the Lucid setup for this with the Crosshair Extreme but honestly they didn't play very well together on that board either. Enter the UEFI system and both AMD and Intel seem to have worked this out to allow better coverage of the current GPU platforms. You might just be having an issue with your 470 and 5870 drivers butting their heads against one another. thinking.gif

If this is the case I would suggest getting one or the other selling the off brand and running one GPU for F@H and the other for Gaming, Surfing etc. Personally as much as I dislike the 470 I would look at getting another one and either selling the 5870 or saving it for another build. smile.gif

Ugh, I just bought the 5870! LoL Why don't you like the 470? It's actually been my favorite card for a while now, but it's actually a 465...the MSI GTX 465 TwinFrozrII Golden Edition with 470 Bios flash. I love the overclock ability of this card! I have owned 3 of them. Had a SLI pair until recently.

I actually thought about that myself. I just dread it because they are both underwater and it is such a process to "simply" switch them around.

Eeeeeeew yeah. That's no bueno. I like my GTX 465s as well. I need to get a better power supply so I can be folding on both of them again. Missing out on ~18k ppd!

Yeah just not a fan of NVidia altogether but the Fermi card unless under water can be quite the flame throwers. Notice I did suggest despite my bias against NVidia, to go that route cause they are better Folders than ATi/AMD cards. biggrin.gif

All this talk of power supplies and video cards made me look at the 12v reading on my main rig and it says 8.71v on HWM eek.gif dont know whats up with that?
I also have a Raidmax 730w running in my daughters PC for 2yrs now and according to HWM it runs at 11.71v

If you wanna giggle I needed a PSU in a pinch for a foldathon and took a Antec 350w Basic Power PSU out of an old HP and had it folding a PHII 555 unlocked to 4 cores and 2 GTX460's and it worked, took every adapter I had... LOLOL

Anyhow as far as Nostra's problem, I had a 5770 and a 450 together before and had to do a driver sweep and reload the driver for the 450 and it fixed it.

Edit: I use the old 266.58 drivers for my nVidia folding cards
