Older case, should I add a "Side Fan" to blow onto CPU/Mobo/GPU?

Hey guys,

I have a new build I'll be putting together tonight. I have an older thermaltake
VA8000 you can see it here: (http://www.bigbruin.com/reviews05/tt...dex.php?file=1)

I was thinking about replacing the 120mm fans I have now, adding new higher flow ones, in addition to adding a side fan. I wanted to know if the side fan might disrupt the front to back airflow at all? Any other alternatives that you can think of?

Build info:
Case: VA8000
Power: Kingwin LZ-1000 1000watt
HSF: Cooler Master Hyper 212 +
Mobo: ASUS P8P67 Pro
Mem: G.SKILL Ripjaws 2 x 4GB F3-12800CL7D-8GBRH
CPU: 2600K
HD: 2x150gb Raptors
Vid: eVGA 570

I'll be overclocking the piss out of it, as its just my gaming machine.

Thanks in advance.

I think you would be fine doing that, and I don't think it would disrupt your airflow too much, especially is your back exhaust are pulling enough to balance the front intake and the side.

Side fans work best when they are low speed, low cfm. The idea is to create positive pressure, not blow right through the front>back airflow and disrupt it like you mentioned.

What would constitute low CFM?

I purchased a few of these: Cooler Master 120mm R4 Series Rifle Bearing Fan's last night.. "R4 series fans perform at a maximum of 90CFM at 2000RPM."

I was thinking of doing one side fan and using the other to slap on the hyper 212 in push pull.

Thermalright X-Silent 120
Enermax T.B Silence 120

Would be good low-speed/quiet case fans for your side panel.

Or you can go to something bigger like a 200. With low speed. It is more cool
