Laptop recommendation?

Thread Starter
Hey, my sister's currently looking to buy a new laptop and asked for my help. Problem is, I know very little about which brands are good these days or not for laptops. Any help? She mainly just wants it for email/web and some pictures, so it doesn't need to be anything fancy...no budget was given, but I'm guessing under $500-600.

I usually recommend Dell, they are reliable, have pretty good customer service, and make good computers (though very simplistic) Something such as an Inspiron 15 would do her just fine, for about $450 she can get something with 3GB memory, 320 GB HD, 15" screen and dual core intel processor

Although many people here may not agree, Acer has been making very nice products lately. Such as their Timelinex series.

ASUS, MSI and Lenovo (ThinkPad's not the crappy consumer IdeaPad junk).

This is fairly cheap, CPU is a little slow but since it'll only be used for light use I think it would be OK. Lenovo G550. Celeron 900 2.2GHz, 2GB DDR3, 160GB, 15.6"

I have basically the same version except for a larger screen and slower CPU. Totally love it, pretty solid hardly any KB flex and the batt is pretty good. ASUS P50-IJ. Pentium 2.3GHz, 4GB DDR2, 320GB, 15.6"
