[PA] Rift Open Beta Starts on Feb. 15th. - Page 7

The game has its good things and its bad things and yes I have been in the last 2 closed betas.

The game engine and the rifts themselves are my biggest worries. First, the engine allows for zero addons and they even stated they did not want addons in this game. That is the reasoning for the fully customizable UI. But being a former WAR player the rifts have me questioning, "Will these end up like PQ in WAR?" The PQ were great for the first month of the game then it was just a boring wait and hope you win the random roll for the gear you need. But what pushed me away from the game is the removal of 10 man raids and only having 20 mans.

On the other hand the game has been polished very well for being a beta. I found only 1 or 2 bugs in my time in the beta and those were minor evade bugs in some rift lords. Many also need to remember some of the video settings have not been put in during the beta and will be available with the release version. Also, the class system is simply the best I have seen of any MMO. The combinations are crazy you can have and don't just stop with you 3 starting souls. You can also acquire the other remaining souls which you did not choose at the starting quest lines and there is also a PVP soul, Infiltrator, for rogues, that adds some more flair to a PVP spec.

All in all, I say for people to give it a shot. If you want a break from WoW and looking for something that you can jump right into with a very small learning curve this is your game.

Just to address your concerns regarding 10 man raids.

Raid development strategies, in a world with an entirely new class of content

One of the things that makes Rift different from other MMOs is that we have this entire class of content that most games don’t – The dynamic content systems that provide us the ability to create invasions, events of all sizes, ancient wardstones, colossi, and rifts. To most everyone here, that’s no big surprise.

Once you start talking about rifts, you have minor rifts (largely for solo and small group players), major rifts (for group players), expert rifts (for high end players, on par with an expert-level dungeon), and raid rifts.

Once we’re talking about those rifts at the high end of the game, those give you the ability to lure out specific encounters by picking up specific Lures. It’s that layer of content that we’ve chosen to focus on for our 10-man raid content for starters.

Most people haven’t experienced this yet in this game or any other, so it can seem as if we’re trying to short the 10-man raids by not doing 10 and 20 man versions of every instance.

Our intent is actually the opposite: This strategy lets us tailor more raid encounters for 10 mans, and giving people cooler things to do, faster, without either a) unfairly forcing people to stare at the same raid zones twice every week if multiple versions of the same zones are available, or b) forcing someone to choose between two sets of friends, if they can only do a 10 or a 20 of the same zone in a week.

Both of those are dynamics that have a lot of downside, and we’re trying to avoid things that either force burnout or force wedges between groups of friends. The dynamic content system, and its ability to provide fun content, accessibly, makes a lot of sense as a potential solution to these problems.

We expect 10 mans to be a pretty huge number of raiders all in all, and we expect to continue creating 10 man content rapidly throughout the live run of the game.

With 10 man rifts (via Lures), just like with 20 man instances, people can go do them on demand, which is another part of the strategy that might not have been clear. So, please don’t think that we’re throwing 10 man raiders to the wolves. We're actually trying to ensure that both sizes of raiding can flourish.

As with any of our other development strategies, we’ll be keeping an eye out and seeing how it goes at mass scale, after lots of people have the chance to participate.

Do know that we’ll respond appropriately, to make sure that we’re always iterating to make the best experience that we possibly can.
And yeah, the class/soul system is the best I've seen of any MMO past or present.

beecuz tr0ll1n is c0o1 brah.

No one helped anyone, trolling was the thing to do, quite frankly, if you just go into the game as a new player, you get shafted by the playing community? No thanks.
IMO this is a huge problem with the internet. Things are getting out of hand. It's only getting worse unfortunately.

I played in the closed beta for a few days but uninstalled. Seemed like another generic fantasy MMO wow clone. I havent heard much about world pvp though. On pvp servers can you actually capture towns?

I've been playing WoW for 4 years now, no other MMO I've tried can simply even match it for me so far. I've tried WAR & Aion, and didn't like both, quit within a month or two. I just go back to WoW.

How is this game in comparison to WoW, and what's better then what WoW offers if they have a similar feature.

Answer is much appreciated, I've wanted to try a new game for awhile now.

Open beta is on the 2/15. Easiest way to find your answer.

And yes there is open pvp where you can take outposts and maybe small towns. Only on pvp servers though. Rifts also take over those areas too on every server.

actually playing in beta would have answered your question. its ok though your game is safe for the time being.

What? Are you trying to come across as a smart ass? Because you are coming off as a dumb one.

Hey guys, going to shed some light here on Rift!

For those of you who are bothered about basic features I shall list what is in Rift:

You can jump, very smooth animation, done well.

You can swim, extremely good swimming animation, underwater graphics are very realistic.

You can draw your weapon, and sheathe it out of combat, however, there is no animation to this process, it just appears in your hand (something that concerns me, and if anyone can tell me if it will be in the final version, I will love)

You can only pick souls from within your class, so say you pick a Warrior, there are 8 sub classes, there are plenty of class customisation options, you pick 3 souls, these 3 souls have to be within your class range and they are all quite diverse, or different takes on classes you're familiar with in other MMORPG's.

There is a quest tracker, and it does a good job of telling you where to go, so you don't spend hours running around.

There is a fair amount of character customisation, including hair styles, facial hair, eye colour, hair colour, face shape, armour dyes!

There are mounts, of different elks too, not just a standard horse.

The starting zone is instanced, but the rest of the game I do believe is open ended. I.E. Seamless, you can run between zones without a loading screen (apparently, I haven't seen this)

You've all heard of Rifts, so theres no point in explaining what one is. But they are graphically amazing (on max settings)

Some high end graphics cards still aren't supported so don't be worried if you play the beta on the 15th and are only getting 20-40fps, I have an OC'ed GTX470 running at 800mhz, and I somehow get around that, with AA on max.

For all you RP nerds out there, I don't believe there are many animations in the /commands, when I typed /dance, my character, did not. But that could be a bug and may be in the retail version.

PvP seems very balanced indeed, I was shocked as there are so many class/subclass combinations I didn't think it would be as balanced as it is!

Support classes are now VIABLE and POSSIBLE! No inclusion of mods and DPS meters (thank god, I can't stand just looking at the numbers, I want to see the graphics, the animations and the combat scenarios, I don't want to be checking my DPS every 2 seconds to see if I'm doing stuff right).

There is dueling, and you can take out small towns on PvP servers.

I think that's all the basic features I can think of right now! Any additions, you guys can help me add!

P.S. Please answer my question on a weapon sheathe/unsheathe animation I MUST KNOW! I do like to RP now and then
