[MSNBC] Electronics Not Cause of Toyota Acceleration Issues

WASHINGTON — A U.S. government investigation has shown no link between electronic throttles and unintended acceleration in Toyota vehicles, a victory for the world's top automaker battered by recalls over runaway vehicles.

I'm inclined to think there was an issue - since I drive on the highway all the time and never see people uncontrollably accelerate - but if not the electronics, what's left?

LaHood said engineers from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration "rigorously examined" nine Toyotas driven by consumers who complained of unintended acceleration.
NASA reviewed 280,000 lines of software code to look for flaws that could cause the acceleration.
Investigators tested mechanical components in Toyotas that could lead to the problem and bombarded vehicles with electro-magnetic radiation to see whether it could make the electronics cause the cars to speed up.
A preliminary part of the study, released last August, failed to find any electronic flaws based on a review of event data recorders, or vehicle black boxes.
In other words, human error and/or deception; big surprise
Some idiot didn't know how to drive, said it was the car.
Then, you have a bunch of people trying to say the same, so they can get a new car / payoff / etc.

The stock floormats could come loose of the hook, move up, and catch the gas pedal, I had it happen while driving my mothers camry. (My longer legs pushed the mat up a bit, so it happened to me and not to her) It isn't a problem if you use the brakes.... they are far more powerful than the engine. It also only happened once.

Idiots and scammers had the problem, and they profited.....
The only issue that actually occurred was when a person stacked 5 floor mats and his gas pedal got stuck since his mats were stacked so high. Toyota corrected the "problem" by designing thinner floormats and grinding part of the pedal off. If your dumb enough to stack that many floor mats you deserve to die.

When would you ever need more than 2 mats (carpet and maybe an "all-weather" plastic mat)?
