The dead pedal on the left is more than enough.

Not sure where you got the " "extreme" situation" from, but I was talking about bracing in response to impact. As in someone drives their car into yours and the impact is strong enough to force you to brace yourself.

I have a buddy who works for Toyota. A lot of these issues were due to poor manufacturing of the gas peddle assembly.

Yeah, Toyota really went downhill. Like my Matrix - it's good enough, reliable and stuff, but not half as good as the old Corolla I had. I've already been through a set of brakes, and the tires are wearing out big time, in a car that is only two and a half years old - while my Corolla was over six years and the brakes and tires still had goodness left in them. And I have put way less mileage on the Matrix.

I am just waiting for them to get stock in the new engine computer, because mine has stalled a bunch of times and is covered by the recall.

Never rest your foot on either pedal while driving, unless cruise control is turned off or unavailable.

For clarification.. the tires are not made by Toyota, and is thus not their fault. Tires do not last 6 years anymore, they will rot after a while and become unusable even if there is still tread. Though they are usable in the sense that if you like driving along and having your tires randomly explode then sure, by all means.

I think he meant that you should have your foot just barley on the break pedal. That way you can break faster in an emergency.

This finding wasn't a surprise. People will find any way to place the blame onto something / someone else.

The Matrix was a joint effort between Toyota and GM . . . that should explain a lot. JUST KIDDING!

OR, this was done on purpose to prop up the US automobile manufactures (since they needed to be bailed out with borrowed communist credit) by dis-crediting the biggest foreign car maker. I have YET to hear of any of these "Run away cars" outside the US.
