Sudden Idle temp increase/fluctuation...

Hi all...

Hoping someone might have some ideas for me...

I'm running a core i7 930 (all 'stock' settings) which usually idles between 30-34 degrees across the cores. Now suddenly as of today (with no noticable change in ambient temps), the temps have risen about 8-10 across the board and are now fluctuating constantly (core 2 will for instance be 39 degree one second, then 48 degrees the next, then back down.) Everything seems functional and clean cooling wise (I'm running a megahalem)

I have made no changes (that I'm aware of) hardware or software wise. Any idea on the possible cause (I know there are a million variables?) I wias thinking a possible virus loading the cpu somehow, but I have found nothing so far...

Any starting point appreciated.

Should you have SS enabled, then thats not uncomon. Nothing to worry about IMHO.

Hi...thanks for reading my post...

I actually just found the problem...it was a new background task 'presentationfontcache.exe' (maybe ms office 2007 related) that was loading my machine heavily when idle...disabled returned my idle temps down 10+ to previous levels (idle 2900+ MHZ down to 1598.90 MHz)
