Are these worth buying?

Thread Starter
Hey there,

A while ago I posted a thread with my system specs asking for a recommendation for a new gpu. I was given some advice by some helpful people, and have a reasonable idea of what I should be looking for. I haven't been able to purchase anything so far, and the items I was directed to couldn't be shipped to Australia, but I've now found a couple of things within a reasonable price range for me, and was wondering if you folks could tell me whether I'd be making a decent purchase or not.

My system specs are in the original post of this thread: http://www.overclock.net/graphics-ca...ommend-me.html

The two items I'm considering getting:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Palit-Nvidia-...item41551e7154

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ritmo-Force-P...item2c5aad1ec9

Also, if there's anything else I'd require to have everything working correctly, let me know.

Thanks.

Definitely do not get a Ritmo power supply. I would be surprised if that 680W unit could pull a solid 400W at load.

As for the GTS 450, pricing and availability are going to be the major factors since you live in Australia. The GTS 450 is not a particularly strong GPU in the first place and I'm sure there are better options in terms of price/performance but without knowing where you will be purchasing from (and as such, pricing), it's hard to make a recommendation.

Right. Thought that power supply seemed a little dodgy, heh.

I'm not exactly looking for the greatest GPU or anything. Right now I have a GT 120 which came with my PC, and it's...not that great.

If you can recommend a decent manufacturer for the PSU, and even GPU, that would be great. I have no idea about those.

And yeah, as someone's stated above, being in Australia really limits where I can buy these products.

I'd also like to keep the total price as close to AU$200 (or lower, though that might not be reasonable) as possible.

Thanks for the help.

PSU wise Silverstone, Corsair, Seasonic, Enermax and Zalman seem to be pretty solid.

GPU wise look for EVGA, Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte.

GPU: Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, EVGA (for nVidia), Sapphire (for AMD) are good brands. But if youre buying a reference card it wont matter.
PSU: Corsair, Antec, OCZ, Seasonic, Silverstone, XFX, NZXT.

Id recommend something like a GTX 460, GTX 560, HD 6870, HD 6950. Either an Asus DirectCU, Gigabyte Windforce or MSI Twin Frozr/Cyclone model.
And any 500-600W 80+ certified PSU from one of the above brands really. see http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...-supplies.html for some good picks.

Id stay away from XFX brand stuff they seem to cheap out on there parts. OCZ psu's are one of the cheaper brands and are "ok", This is a good place if you want to look at a review on a PSU.
