How would I network Quickbooks across several computers?

Thread Starter
I'm incredibly new to everything Networking and I need a little help with this.

If you guys could explain this to me like you're speaking to a 5 year old, that would be perfect.

I need to set up Quickbooks over a network for 2 computers, having never done this before, I really don't know where to start.

If somebody could explain some basic terminology as well as a few methods, It'd be most appreciated

You just share out your company file folder if you only want 1 person at a time to access it.

There is a option in Quickbooks in the file menu to switch to multi-user mode if both of you want to access it at the same time.

If you really want to you can have the company file on a server and install their server software (free) and have it serve out the company file without needing the computer with the company file to be on.

I could be confusing it with another software like Quicken (too many similarly named productes ...) but unless you buy a multiuser license, only one person can access the shared version at a time.

Setup the quickbooks software on one computer, then share that information using Windows Sharing.

If you can, try to open the quickbooks document from that shared folder space over the network. That should allow you to be able to access it.

I don't use quickbooks, but, it should be as simple as sharing the folder that the data is stored in, opening it up on the other computer, and being good to go.
