From 6870 crossfire to gtx 570? - Page 5

I still say OP should get a 570.

I netted a good gain going from my 6870 which was at 975/1125 @ 1.2v to the stock 570.

I think it was worth the 100$ premium over the 6870.

It is over 1 card but he has 2, I "downgraded" and am loving every minute of it but he might not feel the same.

As you can see the only card that died that wasnt stress testing with OCCT or the like was the Twin Frozor II. I dont buy MSI for one because of the track record with AMD boards dying and they taunt military class components (I'm in the military and I know what kind of junk we use, trust me most of the computer equipment is nothing special).

BTW in case you guys dont know what OCP means its Over Current Protection.
That's like selling a 911 GT3 and then telling customers not to go race it cuz it may break. They should design a bit more margin in it, imo.

How so, the lesson that needs to be learned is dont disable OCP and keep the voltage reasonable. 1.1v is enough to push it over 580 speeds so I dont know why people would be adding more, then disabling OCP and then running stuff like OCCT. IMO they asked for it.

There's a perfect margin without taking off OCP. As has been said there are no overclocking benefits or FPS increases when OCP is turned off. Just another 50w your card has to handle on just 4 VRMs.

And that's not quite the same thing. The 997 911 GT3 is MADE for track use, that's how it's designed.

A 570 is not DESIGNED to be used with OCP off.

Now if you use my car for example which is a POS Chevy Cobalt LS with a few mods and I take that to the track obviously something will fail eventually because it was not designed for racing. But if I had an SS that would be a different story. The 580 being the SS in this anecdote as it was designed to take a bit more abuse by adding 50% more VRMs.

Actually, the 997 GT3 is the cushiest GT3 they've ever made, hell it comes with AC. The GT3 RS is actually made for full on track use. The GT3 is for daily driver/track day.

That's a bit of a tangent and perhaps not applicable, but back to my point. If OCP is unsafe disabled, they could have done a better job of protecting it or keeping it from Joe Blow?

You do realize that it wasnt Joe Blow that found out how to enable it, it was the person that writes GPU-Z I believe, he added it and Joe Blow likes to push buttons.

lol Its getting ridiculous with the 570's blowing up crap(mostly from AMD users). Hundreds of overclocked 570's and how many died? Oh just a few? Could some of them been faulty to begin with? Are some people making it up spreading fud? Who knows but just like any other card if you go over the voltage limit or push them too far something may give.

Good points guys & I dont disagree. At the end of the day, it's on us if we mod. Reminds me of the reported 6950s bricks from modded bios'.
