6950 in a 4x 2.0 slot - Page 2

There is just too much worry over the 2.0 4x PCI-e lane. If you Crossfire 16x+4x, you will be fine. Just read this article for the GTX 480 SLI...GTX 480 SLI PCIe Bandwidth Perf. - x16/x16 vs. x4/x4
This also apply for the AMD/ATI GPUs. May not be exact but very, very similar when compared to Nvidia.

Depends on what the OP wants to do. If he wants to benchmark, then this setup is completely out of the question.

If he just wants to see a boost in FPS, then x16/x4 is absolutely fine. I benchmarked with x16/x8 and saw about a 2-4 FPS drop in Heaven and 3dmark 11. That translates to an even minimal drop in gaming.

I play games more than i benchmark , i only benchmark to check stability on the cards .

So no this isnt a benchmarkign setup , its for gaming .. crysis , metro , crysis 2 , dirt 3 is on its way =) i want to be prepared and not have low min fps cos i know this will be the case on the highest settings with 1 card .

The answer is certainly a 'Yes'. It is not 'should' but it just 'will'.

Coool , so i dont get why i look this up on google and the first result is "16x 4x will cripple xfire performance " so many people saying no dont do it , is that bcos as said before theres those people that just want every drop they can get from their 16x 16x lanes , 5% decrease is really nuttn to worry about .. I may go ahead and do this , if i do i will post benchmarks to end this confusion .

Would think 1000 w be plenty fine, and I think maybe they are pointing to the older pcix slots for the crippling at 16X4X....did some reading and this is what I found anyways, seems the 2.0 slots made things a lot better

We're in the same boat my friend (see my mobo in my sig). I'm in progress of switching over to AMD/ATI because of Eyefinity. I'm going to start off with a single 9650, unlock it, and see how well it does.
