Need to make sure I'm not UNDERestimating.

I keep getting varied results from those wattage calculators and they don't even have the sandy bridge processors up, so I thought I'd come to my expert peers!

Specs:

- Intel i7 2600k or i5 2500k (light overclocking with noctua cooler)
- 2 x 4gb 1600 DDR3
- 2x 6950's flashed to 6970's (no overclocking)
- Intel's upcoming Sata 6 SSD
- WD-Black HDD
- Sata DVD-RW
- Media card reader
- All the common peripherals: gaming keyboard, mouse, headset, ipod, mic.
- Front bay case plugs.
- 6-7 case fans /w controller.
- 3-4 UV cold cathodes /w inverter and switch.

I was planning on the Corsair 1000HX. I'm hoping this will be able to handle anything I could possibly do to this setup with what I've listed above. Am I correct?

A solid 750w unit should do fine. ie 750HX

Edit: Didn't see you were flashing the 6950. Looks like an 850w unit would be the way to go. The 6950 loads at around 250w the 6970 @ 300.

A 750W would be ample, even counting unlocking and overclocking the 6970s. A 650W might do it even.

1000w is pointlessly overkill... 650w would just fine as you aren't planning on overclocking the cards after you unlock. If you would go for a 1kW I wouldn't go for a HX1000 either, it's old and outdated.

This just proves how under read I am in all areas PC modding. After reading some of the FAQs and guides here, I can clearly see it would have been a mistake to get the 1000hx.

Thank you all.

A quality 750W Seasonic, Antec, or Corsair unit would be perfect for you.
