tri channel in dual channel board

Thread Starter
i recently built my pc and i checked the motherboards ram compatability and purchased a direct kit that was listed among the ones mark compatible, my question is this, the ram is a tri-channel 1600 3x2gig kit, i know that it wont run as tri channel but will it run as single channel and decrease my performance? If so i would be pretty upset as the ram itself was listed on the asus website as compatible.

so will that not run in dual channel mode, or is there a way to change it to do so?

No.

It will run in single, unless you get another piece of RAM.

just get a dual channel set.

Memory sticks in and of themselves are neither Dual, Tri or Quad-channel.
It's entirely up-to the chosen microarchitecture as to what number of channels it supports.

If your board supports Dual-Channel only, and you have 3 sticks.
You can either:
a) Just run two sticks in their respective slots.
b) Purchase an additional stick of memory for a total of 4 sticks.

just because its compatible doesnt mean it is a proper set. I am sure it will work perfectly fine in the board, just not run dual channel.

compatible only means that it works in the board which im sure it will
