Sony removes other OS, despite using it as a marketing feature early in the PS3 lifecycle. Sony removes backwards compatibility to encourage PS2 sales, then starts selling us the same PS2 games on Blu-Ray disks with little more improvements than a upscale to 1080p.

Almost forgot: 699USD for a gimped GPU console meant to help Sony win the HD format war.

So, greedy liars? I think YES.
Corrected your post.

That said, REGARDLESS of it being advertised (that's if it was) Sony has the right to remove it, especially in the case where it is a security hole to both Sony and its customers.

Quote:
"These contracts specifically provide PS3 purchasers with a license, not an ownership interest, in the software and in the use of the PSN, and provide that SCEA has the right to disable or alter software features or terminate or limit access to the PSN, including by issuing firmware updates," the motion reads. "Plaintiffs therefore cannot succeed in any of their claims because SCEA's alleged alteration/disablement of PS3 features including the Other OS, was entirely proper and authorized."

Sony's motion also said the complaint fails to provide any mass media advertising campaign, statements by SCEA, or PS3 packaging that referenced the 'Other OS' feature.

"Instead, it includes a mix of quotes drawn from obscure articles and unrelated third party publications, and a smattering of out of context and incomplete references to a few pages of SCEA's website and user manual," Sony said.
Words straight out of the court's motions.

I agree. The PS3 never did cut it for me. When it was too expensive, it was too weak and had too few titles; and now that it is affordable and has a few titles, they took out the stuff that the original had that I wanted.

I have a number of old Sony products, all were top grade and are still workhorses. But it seems that they cheapened their stuff in the past decade. Like they used to make some of the best TVs - now, well, it's all about Samsung or LG. I never understood the Vaio at all - overpriced and underpowered. And so on.

But these kinds of law suits demonstrate that the US needs to go to a loser pays system of litigation - because right now, Geohot will have to spend all of his cash over this crud - crud that shouldn't be because all products that need to be "jailbroken" should be recalled with full refunds and destroyed as the fraudulent garbage they are.

I don't remember if I commented on the video but they seem to be getting a little to carnivorous. This just seems ridiculous now. Whatever image Sony was going for itself is seriously deteriorating with their ridiculous reaction. Going after failoverflow and Geohot is one thing but this is just too perplexing.

Remember the "it only does everything" commercials? Everything includes Linux. Case closed.
