Galaxy GTX 465 normal noise level

Thread Starter
Hello...sorry if this is covered...I tried searching and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I have a Galaxy GTX 465...it performs great, is plenty for what I need it for, and was on sale, but it is REALLY loud. As in, when it's fan is spun up, I can hear it out in the hall with my door closed. My housemate in the room below me asked why I had a coffee grinder in my bedroom.

Fortunately, common sense allowed this to register as "Possible Issue".

I've read that these cards are loud, and if that is normal, then that's life...I just want to make sure what I'm hearing is actually considered normal.

I wrote to Galaxy Tech Support with the same question, but they replied with a form letter requiring an insane amount of info and my second born before they would reply.

THIA.

[edit] No overclocks or anything, fan speeds are all set at BIOS default.

I didn't think the fan was that loud. I usually set it up 60% fan speed when I game, and it's not terrible. It's about the same as any other card I've used in the past.

It's naturally gonna cause a bit of noise though. Small fan + high RPM = fan noise.

This isnt something that can be answered with a direct answer because what is loud to me might not be loud to you... like i run all my fans at 100% all the time but i dont mind it at all but it would likely drive you insane.

True point...I would call this one equivalent to a coffee grinder from 20 feet away when I am sitting next to it.

At what fan percentage? When I'm just surfing the net/doing random crap I keep the fan to 45%, which is inaudible. When I game, I put the fan up to 60%, which is definitely audible, but nothing intrusive. On particularly cold nights, I drop it to 55% when gaming, since that still keeps it at 67c while gaming.

Honestly anything over about 40% and it sounds the same as it does at 100%. Anything below that and it's completely silent.

I've decided there must be an issue, so I'm going to go through the tech support process. Hope it's not gone to long...the onboard video isn't going to be nearly as functional.

Thanks for the replies folks.
