i bet the guy is looking at sandy bridge specs some stuff has been said to run low volt ram on them under 1.60 cause of the 32nm die shrink same could be said for the 980x and 970 i bet. But the catch is intel says in their ppf for 900 series 32nm cpus that the max ddr3 voltage is 1.8.

Its fine when you do a few bemchmarks, depends on cooling. But not for 24/7 or gaming.

After you get your CPU from RMA, sit down on a coffee, open the interwebz, and start reading
The 980x has a lot of tricks and is very different over the other 9xx series cpus.
I adjusted my ram settings and I decided to lower the ram speed for 24/7 use. I'm at 1.38 vtt now which puts my mind at ease. In regards to cooling, my setup seems to do the job very well. I'm using a custom water cooling loop and my temps around 28c on all cores in core temp 64. I'm very impressed with how cool the 980x is compared to the 45nm i7's and I also have two overclocked 5970s in the same loop which run at 29-30 at idle and 42c at full load in benchmarks.

I definitely think you were spot on regarding why my cpu died. My system would reboot right around the time the l3 cache was needed. I was running it for months with my ram at 2006mhz and vtt at 1.48 with uncore on auto.

Yes, that would really explain it.
Well, I hope you enjoy your new CPU and its better than the old one

I had a good CPU until it died, and after the RMA I ended with a crappy CPU
