Resolutions doing wierd stuff?!?!?!

Thread Starter
I have a 1080p rca 40" tv i use for my fullscreen gaming. I create a few custom resolutions and found the best quality and best performance(to the naked EYE) was1842x1026 @30hz. I played a handful of games at the setting, which i set in the hardware settings and config file. The problem i have now, is that the resolution just decided it no longer like life. If i try setting my desktop or game settings to it, i get nothing. Is it possible my tv just fritz out, or did the video card catch to something????? anyone with insight would be greatly helpful

All I know is that running a TV at weird resolutions is bad for it.

Something to do with the image processor.

Well that is true, but i can't get it to run at 1920x1080 either. When i was using it b4 at that level, i just resized the screen with the control panel. then added it to the games setting manually. Now the only resolution that i can run reliably is 1680x1050@60hz. Which fits perfectly, odd huh?!?!?

Quite odd.. lol.

Does normal TV work?
You should have the resolution in NVCP set to 1920x1080@60Hz (TV), and your games should be set to run at 1920x1080 as well.

If this causes a problem on your TV, then you need to mess with the various scaling (sometimes called 'zoom') modes on your TV remote in order to get the picture to fit right. You want the TV on a 1:1 scaling mode (not zoomed), basically.

This smells like Overscan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overscan). The card sends an image of 1920x1080 to the TV and the TV overscans it into the border of the TV screen. Currently you solve this problem by sending a smaller image (1842x1026...notice it is just about 4-5% smaller and this amount is typical of overscanning) to the TV. When the TV receives the signal and overscans, the image becomes larger to fit the whole screen.

Perhaps there is a more elegant way to solve this issue:
Check your RCA TV manual to see if it contains a feature to compensate for Overscan/Underscan. If the TV is of newer era, it should have. (This feature might not appear unless you are in a standard 16:9 Aspect ratio display mode.)

Well i found the overscan settings in the tv, now it'll let me run at 1920x1080. but the highest i can set my refresh rate is 29hz. is there any way to correct this?

1.
What is the model number of your RCA 40'' ? (I can dig into its online manual if I know the model number)
Suggestion: Double check that it can go up to 1080p @60Hz.

2.
How is the TV connected? Card's DVI to TV's HDMI? Or, Card's mini HDMI to TV's HDMI?
Suggestion: try a different cable and/or adapter

3.
In Windows Device Manager, does it detect your HDTV properly? Identifying it as a ''RCA model number XXXXXX'' ?
Suggestion: I see you have dual boot. Try Linux and see if it can detect your HDTV properly and even identify it by its RCA model number.

4.
Which Nvidia driver are you using? In Nvidia Control Panel, does it detect the RCA HDTV properly by brand/model number?

In Change Resolution, do you have the option of ''1080p, 1920x1080 at 60Hz(32-bit)'' for you to enable (under HD (red arrow in the pic below) ?

Suggestion: Use Create Custom Resolution to 'force' a 1920x1080 at 60Hz progressive

RCA L40FHD41-E 40" LCD HDTV but is detected as "RS95". i also have a ps3 which will run at 1920x1080p@60hz (59hz). same situation with xbox360. so maybe if i can get the tv to recognize properly it'll run right?

Does this detection (''RS95'') come at Nvidia's Control Panel or Windows' Device Manager?

I think ''RS95'' is the detected Monitor Model, how about Monitor Name? Does it say ''Generic PnP Monitor'' ?

Let me know after you have tried suggestions 2, 3 and 4 above (especially no. 4).
