The only reason I could see getting a M11x is that you need something that small with that long of a battery life. And of course you know that you're not going to run into the hinge issue (shouldn't at this point). But at 800USD there are better options I believe.
What is the size you're looking at?
RAM should be fine. Higher clocked RAM tends to run hotter, if anything 667 is better. Only thing that matters about RAM clock speed is that it swaps as fast as the amount of RAM there is (for example, if running 4GB RAM it should run at >4GB/s bandwidth at least). The 667 RAM modules run well above that (5.3GB bandwidth speed) so there's no need to go for any faster RAM. If he should worry about anything memory related then it should be 1. The manufacturer of the RAM and the model as well as 2. Their latency.
P.S. one other thing I'd consider would be changing the HDD for a cheap low-end SSD (30GB-64GB) as one thing I've learned from experience is that the 2 things that are most likely to fail in a laptop are the fans and the mechanical drives. If I were you shakenbake158, I'd also run a benchmark on that thing and see what temperatures the GPU & CPU hit.Edited by Am* - 2/10/11 at 10:33am
