Sound card suggestions for my MITX rig...

Hey all,

So I am pretty lost when it comes to computer audio, and well, audio products in general. I try my best to research things as often as I can--but I am low on time lately and get a bit lost when it comes to the audio products. I'm looking for a decent 2.1 setup (or possibly 5.1 setup) for around $150 shipped.

I was checking out http://www.theaudioinsider.com/produ...products_id=89 those Swan M10s since they will come to about $135 shipped to my door and appeared to be pretty highly recommended.

The other problem is I don't have a dedicated soundcard. My motherboard is this one and only has a single PCI slot (pcie for my gtx 570). I know how dreadful onboard sound is considered, but to be honest I don't ACTUALLY know personally with my own ears.

My question is this: what solutions are there for upgrading my sound card? I've seen those USB ones--but have always gathered they were junk. Has there been any progess or something I'm unaware of?

I would like to ideally pair this soundcard up with those Swan M10s or whatever speaker setup you guys suggest.

Main uses: Music, Movies, and gaming. To be fair, though, I usually use headphones in game (to hear things like footsteps and not piss my roommates off with the sounds of BC2 all night).

My only experience in the past with audiophile-esque equipment: Logitech Z5500s (I thought these sounded very good, but they were hooked up to this at the time).

Sorry for the long-winded post, just wanted to be as informative as possible.

Thanks!

I'd tell you to get the Xonar DG, but that's primarily a headphoan card. I'd say get the Xonar DS if you want to be boring, but if you're feelin' gangsta then grab the HT Omega Striker.

Those are your best options and each of those price ranges. Although personally I wouldn't get the DS, because I don't have speakers.

thanks for the reply... although I don't have any open slots so I have to use a USB (or something) sound card. I think the ones you posted are regular pci sound cards, which I'd love to use..but just cant

+rep for the reply though
