Better choices for than this computer please?

Thread Starter
So my parents need a new computer and they told me their budget is 500-600.
They sent me a link to the Dell site looking at an OptiPlex 380. So they are having a sale supposedly so I took a look. After some customizing, I came up with the tower below in desktop form and I was thinking about adding

okay so I updated my build and have come up with this. anyone see anything better they could replace or something cheaper?

Note: I do not mind building from scratch. So if someone can find all the parts for around the same price but better that would be highly appreciated

Anything from dell makes me want to vomit, you could go to wal-mart and buy a desktop for 300$'s with the same specs, buy some ram and a gpu and throw it in it. It'll be faster and save a little bit of money.

I understand, however, I am not in the same area as my parents so I cannot check what there is in stores. At the price they are looking for I cannot seem to find much otherwise, which is why I am looking for help.

okay yeah i am pretty sure you can do much better LOL
Cpu
Case (it is really up to your likes for this one)
Hdd
PSU
GPU
MOBO
Ram

so the total is $638 with shipping and tax included for U.S. and after rebates it will be $603, i did not include a cooler because i didnt know if your plan to oc,

you can add about $30 (which is the rebate i mentioned earlier) for an aftermarket cooler, do have an os (on your sig it says you do so i hope you can just install that) or does that also need to be fitted in?

I would save your parents the headache and look in to a prebuilt system from Dell/HP/IBM/etc. The entire system is covered by the same manufacturer so if your parents have an issue they only have one place to call (and shouldn't have to rip out the part).

I can understand that a power user will benefit from a custom built box but non power users will benefit from the simplicity of a warranty.
