Help.. Looking for a good bang for the buck Core 2 Duo Processor.

Thread Starter
Guys, what can you recommend for a budget friendly core 2 duo? Under $115 bucks. I still have a caveman Pentium 4 2.66Ghz Prescott Socket 775 LGA processor . I'm currently playing Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. It's really slowww!! Loading between missions are about 10mins long and lagging throughout each mission. I want it to run more smoothly at least medium settings without lag and long loading times.

I really have a tight budget now, so i can only afford to change my processor. Here is my other primitive specs (which i will change in the near future!) GPU: Inno3d Geforce 8600 GT DDR2 1GB 128-bit, Motherboard: ECS P4M900T-M2, RAM: 1x1GB Corsair DDR2 667, OS: Windows 7 Ultimate. Tia!

Do you have to have a Core 2 Duo? For 100$ you could buy a Core 2 Quad like the Q6600 or the Q9300.

I would really make sure your Mobo can handle a Quad. I dont mean if it was simply stamped "Compatible", but it can actually supply the juice a Quads needs. If you do go that route. It really is a good deal, getting a $100 Quad, but just make sure first. If not, you could really get a used Mobo that easily can handle a Quad, for $50-80, no problem.

But... with a tight budget and that older GPU, I'd just find a decent C2D and call it a day.
