LOL. When an idea is left to a thought due to an assumption of it failing then it has failed, but if that idea is given a voice then there will always be a chance that it may live. I believe in saying what needs to be said even if it is not the popular thing or even if I know there is a 99% chance of it failing. At the end of the day I know that it has been said.

I do not own a blue-ray drive nor have any plans to buy one. I supported HD DVD and was amazed that Sony had finally won a media war. It lost with betamax and MD, both of which were superior technologies but their arrogance got in their way. Sony is a greedy, arrogant, self-righteous, lying company. It is not something new but they are able to continue this pattern of terrible behavior because noone ever does anything about it.

The vast majority of consumers allow themselves to be taken advantage of repeatedly because not being able to have their fancy toys that are totally unnecessary is more important than their taking a stand. God forbid we have to give up a cellphone, tv or a computer and maybe read a book. Don't even mention leaving the house, I wouldn't want to be burned alive by nerds raging at the thought of having to visit nature and other people.

I know that was a bit harsh but the underlying meaning there is true. If I had to give up my cellphone in order to protest a change, I would gladly do it. Anyone that needs to get a hold of me knows where I live and my house number. Besides the peace and quiet I would get from not hearing that god forsaken ringer every 20 minutes because someone needs to text me about their latest "OMG U WUDNT GUES WHAT JUST HAPPEND!" story would be more relaxing then just about anything.

People need to wake up and realize that convenience < integrity.

@ CP2 : If you heard about a friend of yours being raped would you say something even though it did not happen to you? Ok, lets go a bit more mild then that. If your friend told you that when they brought their card for service, that the maker (Toyota, Nissan, Ford, etc.) had removed the ability for their radio to play MP3's because they wanted you to use only store bought albums, would you say anything? Or would you respond with, "Bummer, well my radio still plays MP3s." I certainly hope your logic is better then that.

why do i have the feeling your projecting your anger for something else on SONY, they make great hardware, have good technology, and their prices are fair, so what if you dont like there stuff, fine dont buy it, but dont spew hate and hatefull rhetoric at people for using a company or calling you out for doing so

(and the whole point of your last post is stupid, you say we dont read and go outside, but you have no idea what anyone else does, and the fact that you put this on a COMPUTER FORUM shows that you like your gadgets and tech as much as the next guy)

(oh, and the car thing is totally a bad example, if they do that to you, then just replace the radio, or burn an audio cd for crying out loud)

You completely fail to see the point at even a vague level. You assume that this is out of some blind rage that doesn't even exist. I am simply saying I do not approve of their business practices, which is shared by many people. The examples were gross generalizations and not meant to be exact or taken literally. I enjoy your attempt to shut me up and to make me look like a fool, but you simply missed your mark at doing so. I do enjoy a friendly debate so if you wish to continue, I will read your responses as I have time to do so along with providing you with responses if I have time.

I am not afraid to say that I do indeed love my gadgets, which if you read my previous post I did mention, but I however am not afraid to give them up in order to support a boycott or to make a stand for something that I believed in. Beliefs are an important thing that many people do not have and I am not singling out religion as a belief but rather anything that someone feels strongly or passionately about.

Edit : While I am not an expert in English nor very strong at spelling and grammar, I would recommend that you make an attempt at doing so. It will only make your posts a lot more appealing and more likely to help you at making your point. By doing so it will make your posts appear to have more thought behind what has been said as well as it is generally easier on the eyes. The typical reaction to a post similar to yours is that the read feels as though they have to force themselves to read through the whole thing as well as it felt that your thoughts were very disorganized.

I understand your point %100, but as you have no experience with any of this, it is strange for you to call for a boycott on sony. This isn't even like teenagers calling for lower taxes, where many of them have worked and had taxes withheld (as well as social security and medicare).

You act like this is some intolerable thing that Sony is doing, when all they have done is remove a feature hardly anyone used (I did on one of my PS3s and it was alright at best) save for piracy. They did not remove folding@home (Im running it right now), and they still let you watch xvids and divx files on it as well as play mp3s.

Yes it is true that sony is out to protect their bottom line, but without profits there would be no PS4, PSP2, BRAVIAs, etc... the fact that they lose money every time someone buys a playstation also effects this, as pirating PS3 games is different than PC games in the sense that when you buy a playstation, sony is essentially paying you to. And you then enter into an unwritten and non legal informal contract that you will buy games and movies from sony so they can recoup there losses.

Sony therefor has an even better reason than PC game publishers to combat piracy, as it isnt even just a lost sale that hurts them, but a sale they counted on to sustain there prices. There demands to google did take it too far, but they know that they will never be met, they are attempting to scare people out of hacking it, and that is wrong in my opinion, yet is understandable.

To sum it up
  • the ps3 still does everything it was advertised as being able to do (save linux but that is nolonger advertised)
  • Sony is only persecuting people who are stealing from them
  • They are still a leader in technology and gadetry, and there is no reason not to buy there products unless you fear legal action for using them in an illegal manner

PS:
In regards to spelling and grammar, not everyone has time to sit down and write an outlined 5 paragraph post, proofread, and then revise. You have also pointed out spelling and grammar on my part, yet what you seem to be referring to is just the layout of the post and a hurried writing style, not English mechanics, an area in which you have several blatant errors in you post. Yet as I am not a grammar Nazi and don't expect much from the internet in general, do not really care

I for one don't own many Sony products, but i have in the past. To me when you buy a Sony product, you don't so much buy it for the quality, but it's more in the name. I've bought headphones, DVD players, monitors and they didn't outright perform their competition. As a matter of fact on the headphones sector they actually sucked, but they continue to charge high prices. I know people that have owned Sony TVs and weren't impressed for what they paid for it. So I can KIND OF understand why people wouldn't by a Sony product.

Now as to why you would boycott Sony or anything of the sort is beyond me. You don't get forced to buy anything Sony has to sell. You get the option to buy. That's the great thing about America is that you have that choice. And another great thing about America is the Enterprise world. The consumer nation. Make a product and if enough people buy it you will be successful. If they don't then you will suck it it. Apparently Sony has done something right if it wasn't making superior products.

Why cry...just don't buy and live your life.

Boycott Sony for defending their console from being broken, which allows pirating? What kind of company would you run? Not a good one if you are against what they are doing. I understand the hackers don't think of themselves like that, but in reality that's whats going to happen.

Sony is greedy.... but most companies are, but sneakier .

MS knew 360's would RRoD, but released them anyway. They didn't offer the sick warranties until being sued.

I'm not surprised some HD-DVD owners are hurt over Sony though. HD-DVD owners were like the most die hard fanboys I've ever experienced.

I was going to buy a ps3 as well but the way sony is messing with things it makes me apprehensive now. So I donated $2 to geohot's legal fund, haha, long live pc gaming!

The problem i have is you buy something why can't you do whatever you want with it? And then if you find out something about it you can't tell your friends? silly sony, chill out.
