Budget of 4,000$ USD - Page 25

Thread Starter
Yeah I think it's in use if he's on it now?

Can we re install it again on a new harddrive without the activation popup occur?
I do have a windows xp version in my drawer somewhere, but everyone says 7 is the best.

Yea, if its OEM then you can't use it on another computer. I think if its retail the key isn't tied to the motherboard, but I have no idea I only buy OEM from newegg. You can get Windows 7 64bit for $100.

Get windows 7 64 bit edition no sense building a killer rig and then using an old outdated OS.

John

I don't want to cause fanboyism here -- But from your post and what your son will be doing, you should really get an Intel chip and not AMD. Normal computer use, yes, I'd get AMD. But as you stated, your son will be doing a lot more than just that..

The Intel chip(s) will show significant improvements in pretty much every area over AMD's offerings (except price)

If you're serious about the $4,000 you want to spend on a PC -- Please go with Intel for your sons sake. As everything in that computer will be top of the line, except the CPU... (as far as performance goes)

*sigh* AMD isn't that horrible .... I have an i7-970 system and a 1090t system. AMD can pretty much keep up with my 970, even surpass it on a multithread task. Doing an Intel build doesn't make it an epic build.

Ok, This thread has gotten insane, people haven't read half of it,and giving advice.

The 980x is a great choice for your son. He will use it. The Rampage III you added is great also. I have both, and can't complain. Any of the high end 1366 motherboard are good quality though. Keep that in your cart, you can't go wrong, for RAM, I would suggest

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145271

The only problem with that memory is that it will use up all the slots, if he wants to go to 24GB, he'll have to replace all of them, but 12 should be enough. Maybe someone that does more video editing stuff will be able to correct me there.

Send me a PM if you want, and if you have skype, that works better also, as you can chat in real time. But there is a lot of different opinions on here, and I think a lot of it has to do with not reading the thread through. (some still think you have $4K left to spend).

I love AMD, but this isn't a gaming computer, the tasks he wants to do, the 980x will crush the AMD 6 cores....

NOOO!!! Do not go with the 980x (and yes I read the entire thread). Waste of money, the 1090t can perform just as good.
