Synaptics driver not playing nicely with pointing stick buttons

Thread Starter
I have a ThinkPad, which includes both a standard touchpad and a TrackPoint pointing stick; each has its own set of buttons.

I just upgraded to the latest v15 driver which adds multitouch gestures among other things. It's very nice, except for one small fact: while everything else works perfectly, the buttons for the TrackPoint don't function correctly.

Pressing the left click button, for example, will click once when pressed down, then click again when released. This makes it impossible to drag a window using the TrackPoint button; the "unintentional double-click" actually makes it maximize if I'm not careful. Same thing happens with the middle button; it opens 2 or 3 tabs when middle-clicking on a link. This does not happen with the second row of buttons beneath the touchpad.

I'm using the Synaptics driver, not the limited Lenovo UltraNav driver. The hardware works fine, as assigning a keystroke to the button results in it being placed only once (so it's not a bad button).

Can anyone with a ThinkPad at least confirm that this is an issue?

I used Synaptic's drivers instead of IBM's before... Screwed everything up, including the double click.

I've always used them (because Lenovo falls behind in keeping their customized ones updated) and I've never had problems up until now. Everything's working great except for the clicking of the trackpoint's set of buttons.

Which ThinkPad did you have those issues with?

I'm going to try the 15.0 driver that I found on HP's site... maybe it'll improve the situation. This really seems like a simple bug in the driver.

I've got a T410 and I never had a problem with the trackpoint no matter what drivers I used. In Linux it took a little bit of work to get it working right, but in Windows I've never seen a problem.

Which thinkpad do you have?

I registered in this forums just to confirm the same issue as OP; I'm using a T500.

Was very happy to find the updated driver with two finger scroll, but this issue is ruining it for me. I've tried disabling the two pointing stick buttons but can't unprogram myself to not use them. Such a shame that Lenovo hasn't updated the UltraNav driver!

I actually solved the problem by using the 15.0 driver (Touchpad 6.2) from HP's website. I don't remember the link off the top of my head though...
