A Handful Of Noob Questions About The Sabertooth X58

Thread Starter
Hi everyone. I just built my first computer this past weekend. Being the noob that I am, I'm sure I'm not doing it 100% correctly.

I apologize if I posted this in the wrong place but since my questions are tied to the motherboard, it seemed like this is where I should post. Also, if I got any terminology wrong, please let me know so I can learn from my own mistakes.

I have a few questions:

CPU Questions:

1) It seems the motherboard (at default settings) is slightly overclocking the CPU so instead of running at 3.06, it runs at 3.2. Is this ok/normal?

2) The CPU cores seem to vary in temperature. I have cores 1 and 3 running a little hotter than cores 2 and 4. They generally idle in the 30's and while gaming they tend to go to the 40's and once core 1 went to 51. Is this ok/normal?

---------------------------------------------------

BIOS Question:
1) It seems everything is working correctly in terms of all hardware being recognized and and all ports working in Windows. However, every cold boot I have to go into the BIOS and reset the boot priority - it is not remembering the my settings from the day before. What could be causing this?

Thank you in advance for your time in reading this and providing me with direction.

EDIT:

+1 to all for the info.

Anyone? Please?

Core temp. variation is normal between cores in a Quad core CPU. ASUS has an Auto Tune feature in the BIOS. Be sure to check and see if it is on. That could explain the bump to 3.2.

1. Turbo mode. Current Intel processors will speed up a certain amount beyond what they are rated for as long as they don't get too hot.

2. Cores don't usually match in temps. Some will be higher than others.

Bios question: Well I wouldn't think the CMOS battery as it keeps your other settings. Don't have anything for you there.

Your temps are fine too.

There has to be another boot priority setting in the bios somewhere. I do not have that board, so I am not sure.

Maybe reading the bios section of your manual will help you solve that problem.
