Need help getting new CPU

Thread Starter
Hello all,

I am currently running a 955 BE @ 3.6 but it was a 2nd revision so I am unable to get anything more without getting unstable.

I have the feeling I am getting bottle necked in games due to the CPU. I am running 2 6850's in crossfire and if I leave them at stock or crank them up to 940Mhz I get about the same FPS. But I also notice that 2 of my 4 cores are maxed when gaming.

Another question is I notice my processor says is supports a
hyper transport link of 4000Mhz but my motherboard (M4A79T Deluxe) only does 2600. Is that an issue?

So down to the two I have in mind. The 1090T and the 1100T. Which one is preferred for overclocking?
Is that 3 Core boost even an option when overclocking? They seem to be close to the same thing besides one having the option for the turbo boost. I just want to be able to achieve a solid 4Ghz+ overclock.

If you're really concerned about saving money, it's a good time to wait. If you're not, it's still a good time to wait.
The only people that should be buying right now, are impulsive people like me.

Bulldozer, the new AMD chips that should be coming out soon.

Also, I don't think the current AMD 6-cores would give you much of the boost you're looking for. As far as I know they're rather similar to the 4 core series but with you know, 6 cores, and if the game's you are playing are only using 2 cores anyways, then I don't see what would be much different. Until bulldozer comes around the only upgrade that would give you what you want would be with Intel and sandy bridge.

Thanks for the info all!! Didn't know about the new AMD stuff coming out. I will hold out for it and pray that they finally take down intel like I have been waiting many years for them to do.

4G is doable for 1090t or 1100t. Other than see some numbers increased in bench, you may not see significant performance boost if your 955BE is already 3.6G. X6 is basically X4 plus extra 2 cores (not really true but pretty close….) . Most games are using 2 cores so if it doesn’t fully utilize X4 then it will be same for X6.

I doubt your processor is bottlenecking your GPUs. 4 cores should handle it fine, even at stock clocks. I did not see a significant increase in FPS from overclocking my CPU, although I'm not running crossfire or SLI. Just my two cents Good luck!
