Please stay away from the MSI boards for various reasons. If you want a good and reliable board at a decent price grab a ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 or a Biostar board. If budget is a concern you might want to take a look at the Asrock 870 extreme 3.

Great board, very decent power phase design and also a great board for overclocking. If it fits your budget you can't go wrong with that one.

The 890FXA-GD65 actually looks okay, it's a decent looking 8+2 power phase. The 790FX though, 4+1 and very known for blow-ups above 1.5V.
The 890GPA-UD3H.... don't go with it. Even if it's a fairly decent 4+1 power phase, the main issue with that board is the BIOS & feature issues. Everywhere. Usually especially with x6 processors.

890GPA-UD3H, the first REV aren't that great, but the new REV are pretty good. I put one in every build I do for people, great board.

Im building my first computer today. I do have experience fixing computers but have never built one from scratch

I bought a
AMD x6 1090t black edition CPU
MSI 890FXA-GD65 motherboard
4gb DDR3 Patriot Division 2 viper extreme 12800 x4 =16gb. Ram
Thermaltake black widow tr2rx 850w PSU
WD 500 gb sata hard drive

And I'm trying to use my
ATI Radeon sapphire 1950gt video card

The computer turns on. All the fans start up but no video signal! No sound? No beeps from the bios. Nothing!
I cleared the CMOS and still nothing. I tried only using 2 sticks of ram and still nothing!
Is this card compatible with my system?
I removed everything and put it back together and still nothing!

Is the CPU power connector pluged in ?
Have you tryed both slots ?
Have you tryed booting without the video card and see if there are any beeps ?
If you remove the video card and you have a USB KB or Mouse connected you should hear a beep sound even if you don t see nothing on screen.MSI mobo will beep for any USB device connected at boot (a feature).
It may be a compatibility between the video card and the mobo.Your video card is PCI-E 1.x and the mobo is PCI-E 2.x
Is the CPU cooler the standard one ?

Are there any stand off s to mount the mobo ,to many or none ?

im afraid i blew up my cpu... i have a msi 890fxa-gd65 and the cpu its a amd 955 be with a h50 cooling system (i managed it to mount the h50 radiator outside of the case and added an extra fan to it, works great 34c at idle and 52 max load). now the problem is that i been trying different setups for the cpu trying to overclock at 4.0ghz, i always increased the multiplier not the fsb or anything alse. now the multiplier at 20x but prime 95 always crashed. i tried increasing the voltage to even 1.55 at one point, now i also tried as well to increase the northbridge from default (2000 mhz) to 2200 mhz. after many tries i got tired of prime 95 to crash and decided to load default setup in the bios, but now prime 95 even crashes and computer freezes at stock speeds.
one important thing to say is that the cpu never exceeded 55c even at max load which seems very good temperatures. now coould anyone tell me if increasing voltage or northbridge could have damaged the cpu?
