oss4 in sabayon, need help

Thread Starter
I can't seem to be able to find a guide for setting up and installing oss4 in sabayon linux
and I do not want to break my os or any thing like that

how would I go about installing it in sabayon?

if you are wandering why I use oss, it is because it sounds better and is better with playing games in wine and so on

As far as I know, it isn't supported or set up for working with Entropy. I dabbled with it back in October though, could have changed.

Edit: I'm sure you could find all of the dependencies and the like and compile it yourself. Search for the Open Sound System packages and find out what they need and give it a whirl.

ya Entropy dose not have oss to my knowledge

I guess I'll have to compile from source

the thing is how do I go about blacklisting and removing alsa and Pulse Audio?

i doubt it's the same as in ubuntu

how does sabyon/gentoo go about blacklisting modules? find that out and you'd have your answer, same as removing alsa all together, i'd imagine you'd use "entropy" or "portage" to do so.

I just extract the linux-sound-base package from debian and use it's blacklists as examples. I'm sure everything is still put in /etc/modules.d/blacklist or something similar. Just find where the blacklists entries go and use the Debian alsa-noConfig.blacklist or whatever it's called. I'll go find that in a sec, gotta drop some kids off in the pool first. =X

As for building from source, use the wiki, it's really easy.

[edit] It's linux-sound-base_noALSA.conf

do you have the kernel source or headers installed correctly for your particular kernel version?

i'm not familar with sabyon package manager, but most things like this, would require either have the source to the kernel installed, and then put in the system path, or at least the headers, try something like:

entropy linux-headers

or

entropy kernel-source

most distro's have packages that already take care of this, but not all include the source on a standard install, or even the headers.

kernel-source is not in the repositories

this is getting quite annoying
