Most of the dell BTX boards were C2D's/AMD if I'm not mistaken. That looks like an mAtx.

The only problem is that i dont have a lot of knowledge in this area and really just dont know where to start because when i open both of them up it gets a bit overwhelming. If you want a new case. For that computer, you will have to get a new motherboard, and maybe a new PSU. The dell MB will not go in any other case than DELL, the motherboard in your dell will also most likey be on the wrong "other" side, As in looking at the back of the pc, normally the MB will be on the Left. The I/O shield in the dell will also be part of the case.

Get your specs posted up, ie CPU/socket and we'll be able to work out the best way to get a new case.

Well the way I'd wanna wanna do it is one peice at a time so really no budget but I would like to keep it cheap to the point so I can play any of the new games but not spend a fortune
post #25 of 63
Perhaps you'd be better off selling it and buying some new parts... Looking through the item list I saw a Prescott 530, which is socket 478 and ancient, to say the least. If you sell it you can probably raise enough money (keeping your video card of course) to piece together a decent uber-budget gaming rig. What games are you looking to play?
My suggestion:

Return the Antec case (pity, it is a nice case but go for function over form)
Sell the DELL (keep the video card)
Opt for a combo like this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/email/WEM...199BareboneKit

At most you'd likely get 75-100 for the Dell, and after returning the case you'd only be paying $40-55 more for a much more modern processor, DDR2 ram, and a pretty functional case. You give yourself a tiny bit of room to upgrade and when Bulldozer comes around you will probably be able to upgrade to a (hopefully cheaper) AM3 processor.

Do you think I could put together a good enough rig for 1,000?
Good enough for what? What are you trying to play? If you have a grand to spend on a new machine you might want to wait until Intel fixes the P67 problem and go with Sandy Bridge.

People, do some google searches before spouting out random crap.

Within its specifications, its clearly states its a mATX.

If he wants a sick case then why not? Itll be a preamble for whats to come down the line.

OP, 1k will get you a lot of pc power
