crucial c300 and gigabyte ud3r

this might be tl : dr - if so im sorry

putting together a new rig / got it all finished and my wei was 6.9, the 64gb c300 [firmware 006] was holding me back [all other components scored a 7.9]

so i found a bench app [as ssd] and sure enough, its fast, but no where near what it should be

its connected to the white gsata3 port on the mobo and ahci is set in the bios - but the as ssd tool shows pciide as the drive type [which i switch through my other hdd drives they all show ahci]

so clean slate / im going to pull out all my hard drives and just use the ssd - any tips or suggestions or methods i should try?

im really at a loss with all this talk about the different controllers and intel this and marvell that... from ide to sata ive always just plugged a hdd in and it works! at worst i had to do a little managing in windows

ive been building my own computers for better than a decade but im out of touch with ssd tech - im a nerd like you guys though so just throw the jargon at me i can handle it

thanks guy, in advance...

*update*

been doing a little more digging - it would appear that despite having set ahci in the bios, that appropriate driver isnt loading

as ssd still shows im on ide and my 4k 64 threads are no faster than a mechanical hhd...

so i figured out how to get the drive to ahci - but my seq read is still horrible - almost like its reading the sata port as a 1 and not a 3...

any ideas?

The performance diffrence between ahci and ide is not that extreme. Only around 15% loss using ide generally. This might sound crazy, but try a diffrent sata port. Some intel hard drive controllers like the ich10r have had a history of having ssd compatiability issues on some sata ports.

Oh btw, in your user control panel for ocn go to edit system and put your system specs in their rather then having it in your sig.

I have the same MB and drive you have. Make sure your drives firmware is up to date. They have an update on their site. Also make sure you have the latest bios. If not , use a clean bootable USB drive to flash it.

Do not install any of the MB drivers from the disk you got with it. Use all the updated ones from Gig's site. Also do not provide the marvell drivers until you have downloaded and extracted the marvel magni console.

I was plagued by similar probs as you, but through research and using updated drivers, I got my C300 up to speed.

do you have the ud3r or the sli version? there are two that are very similar and just the ud3r version is much better [usb 3.0 / sata3 etc]

mine only has sata2 and gsata2 - its the gsata2 that are giving me fits - i tried to load the opsys with a driver from gigabytes website and it actually slowed things down a bit[lists as jraid in as sdd]

i think im going to go with a new board if i cant get this drive to perform up to sata2 spec

ive been giving it a go with the white gsata2 ports - tomorrow ill try the normal blue sata2 ports and see what i get

You can use the Blue Intel ports for this, and that is what I'd suggest you use too.

If you need any help let me know.
