New York City’s sewage presents a daunting and costly challenge: it creates foul odors and often contaminates waterways.
But the city is now casting its sewage treatment plants and the vast amounts of sludge, methane gas and other byproducts of the wastewater produced by New Yorkers, as an asset — specifically, as potential sources of renewable energy.
Less trash, and able to heat and power 2,500 homes per year?
Seems like an awesome investment for a city that only a few decades ago was notorious for being full of filth. The inanimate kind.

This is awesome. I read about a machine that turns garbage in to plasma, and uses the extra energy provided by the oxidation to generate energy, perhaps it will become utilized as well.

Also this sludge can easily power a microbial fuel cell or a microbial desalination cell. All that melting polar ice got you down? Turn it into drinking water by adding sewer sludge and the right bacteria!

I skimmed the article, but it seems like this is for wastewater/sewage, which I consider different from trash. NY still exports their trash to other states...

That made me chuckle
By the way... don't go for a career in PR.

This is a brilliant idea and should be implemented in all Major Cities... along with those power gen's that were designed by some bloke over here(UK) which when you drive over them, they generate... umm... power
