I'd welcome a nuclear power plant near my house.

Do it put all the plants in the middle of the country, since its the least populated & if were attacked the enemy cant get to it and dig a huge hole in the desert and just pour the waste in... and anybody that goes within 100 miles of the desert base gets sniped

Waste? Put it in a spaceworthy barge with rockets and aim it away from us.

?????

Profit.

I see that mentioned alot.
So, what happens when the rocket propelled "barge" goes kaboom and radioactive waste is littered all throughout the atmosphere?

Great times are soon to follow I'm sure!

I've always been a fan of nuclear power, I hope we can see this make it through and start seeing more innovation happening in that sector again.

Nuclear power is a PR nightmare. Might state was fined 100s of millions of dollars for backing out of a nuclear waste compact. The result of backing out? Nuclear waste already here is stuck unable to move or go anywhere. It is mostly low-level medicinal sources, and is still in 55 gallon metal drums in an open-air lot just outside of downtown. It was deemed to risky too bury, and too risky to move, but evidently it is just fine to let it sit above ground just outside of downtown.
That sucks. I have a nuclear power plant 20 miles from my house. They have stored all of their waste on site since the 1960s. I am not worried. All of their spent fuel rods are in a coolled contained pool.

100 years of safety is not really enough, but if they can make containers that can last 500 years or more that should be enough time for us to figure out how to deal with the nuclear waste.

Nuclear power is a great option if we want electric cars with very little impact to our environment.

Scientists are also making strides when it comes to recycling the waste products. There are also reactor designs that can make use of spent nuclear material to produce more power from the waste.
Yup...
