Another push or pull thread...

I know you guys have seen a hundred of these threads already but I couldnt really answer my questions with what I was reading.

I just got my second rad in, it's XSPC RX240. I already have an EK Coolstream 360.

I have my 360 in the front bays of my 1200 with fans pushing cool air through it. I will put the RX240 in the two 120mm exhausts but I'm not sure if I should push or pull to exhaust the air.

I'm using high speed yates but I use a fan controller and would like to run them at about 1450 RPM max. Which orientation would work best?

I could also bring cool air in from the rear of the case but I'm guessing that wouldnt be practical with only the top fan as an exhaust.

This. Pretty much the seminal work on the subject...

At 1450 RPM it is not going to make a huge difference between push and pull. What will make a difference is intake vs exhaust.

As you have your front rad pulling air in, and your rear rad pushing air out, the air going through the second rad will be warm. If there is no other source of cool air into the case then this will reduce the cooling power of the second rad considerably, as it will be effectively like a stacked radiator.

You might want to consider going for the rear rads as an intake as this will give better performance, at the cost of increasing your case ambient temperature a bit. Don't worry too much about only having a top fan as exhaust, it is not going to make a huge difference to air flow.

Edit: Evidence of the poor performance of stacked radiators can be found by comparing the results for single vs stacked MCR320 radiators in Skinnee's comparison.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and try using the rear as an intake as well with the top fan as the sole exhaust and see how that goes. Considering the cpu and gpu's will be under water I'm not all that concerned with higher case temps (unless it gets out of hand of course.)
