Need a stable overclock for a Asus X58 Sabertooth Motherboard

Hi Guys,
I need a stable overclock to around 4Ghz for my Asus X58 Sabertooth motherboard with the 802 BIOS, when I bought the board it was on (BIOS 505), but I was having daily crashes, which was driving me nuts...
Someone told me to update the BIOS to the above which I have done, and system hasn't crashed since... I would like to overclock my system to 4GHz..
Being new to overclocking I would need a guide to give me a stable overclock...Does anyone know how to do this...
I would be grateful for any help Guys.

If you can move or repost in the 'Intel' -> motherboard section.. you will likely get faster responses.

*just being that you are running an i7:

You need to understand a few things- Uncore = NB speed.. and must be at least 2x that of set RAM speed. Uncore will get voltage by adjusting the "IOH" volts in your BIOS. As well, QPI will require VTT or QPI/DRAM voltage [which ever its called in your BIOS] to start raising QPI speeds.

You will want to lower your CPU multi to slow your CPU down..this will help isolate the issues you are having. If you fail stability tests with a lowered CPU speed, at the same QPI/Uncore/DRAM ...then you know you need to address these voltages/settings first before you raise CPU speed again for testing stability.

With your RAM, you should be safe to run 1.36v QPI/1.68v DRAM for a QPI clock around 3.4-3.6ghz and a RAM speed of ~1400-1600mhz. Your IOHv will most likely need to be on the plus side of 1.2v to hold uncore speeds stable over 3ghz.

Give those a try..and good luck on the repost!
