Benchmark decides x4 vs x6 - Page 2

What issues does the GB board have. I have a rev1 and am interested in finding out if there is something I will not be able to do with it in the future. Currently it is a HTPC board with an unlocked sempron140 and has been wildly solid.

If you don't plan to use heavy multi-threaded applications, do not plan to overclock, and are mainly gonna be gaming, then get the x4. It is clocked higher than the x6, and will get about as good, or sometimes better, frame rates. If you plan to overclock, get the x6. The x6's regularly overclock better than the x4's, and have better imc's with (for the most part) can hold higher NB's. So if overclocking, the x6 is the better choice.

Do you have a price limit on the motherboard? If not, look into the Asus Crosshair series. They are GREAT motherboards.

I have the Crosshair IV Formula, and love it. It was totally worth it. From my research, it seems to overclock very very well for AM3 cpu's. If you don't plan to overclock, then the UD3 might be the better bet. Also, the 890GX chipset runs a little hotter than the 890FX chipset. The extra heat from the 890GX might hinder any overclocking as well. So....If you are not overclocking, the UD3 might be a better choice, since it saves money. If you plan to overclock though, the Crosshair IV might be the better choice, because it seems to overclock very very well.

If your not going to overclock (which is the bread and butter to these higher end boards) then there is no point getting one, save you money and get one of the cheaper boards recommended by the guys here and put the extra money towards a better GPU.

No.
Unless you plan high (high) overclock or 3 sli/crossfire.

Put the money in a big ass graphics card.

What's the price difference between the x4 and x6?

Then decide if you would like an extra 2 cores for that difference..
