9800 GTX - dedicated physx or hydra?

Thread Starter
There is a 9800 GTX+ that has been doing the rounds among family rigs. So, I am finally getting it and hoping to give it a place in my rig. Thinking if I should make it a dedicated Physx card or combine my 6950 with it via Hydra logic.

Suggestions? Opinions?

Uh, you could put it on PhysX... but what you really should do is have it fold for OCN.

I think the results with Hyrda will be very minimal, and I'm not sure if you'd still be able to render things with the DX11 Features of your 6950... I'd suggest you use it as physX ... But I'm not entirely sure, as I do not own a Hydra board :/...

Try both, post benchmarks and your personal experience, choose which you like more.

Ok then ! Guess I will try out both ways and see what happens !

I did not really think about one is DX11 and one is not and what happens when you combine both. Guess I will find out.

I do not recommend getting a 9800GTX+ For PhysX or any other modern Games/Programs. Something that is very close to the Power of a 9800GTX+ is a GTS450. It is Fermi too so it is better for folding and PhysX Games

Well, this is a free one doing rounds among family rigs. It got replaced by a GTX 560 in the last rig it called home. So, gonna stick it in my rig until the next budget build for someone.

@OP Just use as PhysX as:
1. The mixed Crossfire-SLI combo wont really give good performance (LucidHydra scaling sucks) and because one card is DX10 and the other 11, you'll have issues in DX11 games. Just set it to dedicated PhysX if you play PhysX games regularly or whatever.

He doesn't seem to fold, and he kind of already has it, why should he waste money buying something thats the same?
