BFG gtx275oc volt mod help?

So i'm about to do this mod for the first time ever for a voltmod on a GPU.

My dilema, My card has never been able to hold a stable OC over say 10+MHz. However I have stressed the crap out it at stock clocks and did an OCCT gpu mem test on it and it all came back solid. My only option is to sell it or volt mod it wink.gif

According to this pic,
gtx275_vmodzpfm.jpg

I'm not 100% clear where you solder, directly on the silver contact in the middle of the circle I take it?

Can I use one of these?:

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=023-560&source=googleps

So it would be one end of the resistor to the board and the other to any ground on the card correct? Like one of those large screws or something?

Yeah, I need help.yessir.gif

And also in terms of the Caps blowing, I'm not looking to get any crazy high numbers here, I just wan a mild OC over the stock clocks. So if I have a 100k resistor and you start to OC how and when does the voltage go up to where you can risk blowing the caps? Does the voltage just automatically raise the higher you OC or do you have to set it in nibitor specifically? Do I even need a 100k VR if i'm going to be air cooling this, could i get away with a 80 or 90 VR?

Also, to check the voltage with a multimeter do I touch one stick to the blue box and the other to the yellow circle?

I'm looking to get something around say 750core

There's is just another GTX275 mod topic here:

Take a look at post #34 and following.

most all 275's should be able to get close to the clock speeds you mentioned with no mods or adjustments... headscratch.gif

When you mentioned your GPU will not even take a 10mhz OC... how do you mean? What does it do to indicate this?

With my card(msi twinfrozr 275) I could not go much above 700 on my stock card. I wouldn't take it over 1.30-1.32v load if you want to keep the caps safe. It will pull more as the card heats up heat= resistance=more amps=dead stock caps at around 1.35. Mine blew in bad company 2 at 1.35 with less than 5 mins of gaming. If I were you I would do what CL did and just cap mod the card and leave the voltages stock for the speed you want to get to. As far as thevolt mod it's the silver solder point/ circle you solder to. I would use the ground on the fan or on the pcie plugs

My card will just crash in the Heaven bench with anything over say 10-20MHz, not sure on the exact numbers but it's def within those two. It sucks. I know it's not normal but the card performs fine at stock clocks no matter what you throw at it.

I've tried Riva tuner, ntune, raising each clock by itself, etc.

Since i'm on W7 it will just crash the display driver, but Heaven, Metro 2033 and OCCT bench will crash it within 10 mins and lower depending on how high I have the clock.

ahhhhh. this is a issue with the power saving mode on the card. i had the same problem and it DROVE ME NUTZ!!!!headscratch.gif somtimes i would get in a game and the oc's would work fine, other times it would crash right off the bat. Use riva tuner and force 3d clock speeds at all times and it will fix the driver crash problem. i think its under power user in nvidia overclock, and then in the over clock sliders set it to 3d mode 24/7:yessir:.

seems like Nvidia droped the ball on that one. you and i are not the only ones that have exp this issue trust me.

Woah really!? I will test this out right now!

hmmm "force constant performance level" is greyed out on my rivatuner... any ideas?

google found it for me

No go, even with that setup in riva, I cannot get over 700c now, I keep dropping it down but it's still crashing, I'll post back when I find a stable number. At least it doesn't step down to 300c like it used to after it crashes!

Maybe I have a faulty cap somewhere? Maybe I need some more juice? Who knows, this card just does not want to OC.

*update* So far, I'm running stable at 720c/1548s/1269m

Correction: 720c/1530/1270 with VERY limited testing, but no artifacts in 10 minutes.

If I raise any of them even by just 5 more, I'll begin to get artifacting/erros with OCCT GPU running.

but so far 20 minutes and no errors or crashes at these speeds.

I want MOAAAAAAAAAAR, With the exception of the mem, these are kind of low numbers for stock voltages, no?

Those figures look good for stock volts.. your shaders may go higher with lower temps [unsure of where your temps are now.. thats just generally the rule -> lower temps = increase shader speeds without volt increase].

*as for memory.. do you have Samsung IC's or Hynix? Sammy's will go a lot higher but will require volts and cooling. Hyni's just suck in general and will not budge much from where you have them already. redface.gif

Hitting 93c with OCCT running

looking at the card now to shade, I'll check out the mem chips

I'm not taking the cover off to see lol, so I really don't know what I have then.
