BFG gtx275oc volt mod help? - Page 2

you dont need mods you need better cooler. Your not trying to boil water here..and stability with an OC is always in jeopardy when you start dealing with temps in excess of 70c..

Really? I thought GPU's are normal to run in the 90c range?

GTX275 max core temp is 105c

But you are probably right, maybe i'll buy a block and add it to my loop...

I stop my OC's for things I use on a daily basis, when temps hit 55-60c..or I go colder. Hardware scales much higher if its cool..and lasts a lot longer too With that kind of heat you are setting your self up for disaster once you start adding strain on your voltage components..

That is a very valid and good point. There is no reason for me to even look for a voltage mod on this card unless I get it on my loop.

Or maybe i'll just take the plunge and get the GTX470 for $250, not a bad price.

For now, I'll just take off the original cooler, and replace the horrible OEM paste and use up the rest of my arctic silver and drop my temps.

Yea 93 is a bit toasty. Going with a 470 compared to what you have would not really be worth it IMO. With the current clocks I'm rocking out in between the performance of a 460-470(stock). Get a better cooling and do the volt mod and u will have nearly the same performance, unless u really want directx11. You may want to try redoing the TIM on the stock heatsink. But with temps that high is prolly more ventilation. I'm actually impressed it holds those clocks at that temp.

Yeah I just read up about the 470, thought it was faster, nevermind on that, I'll wait for the next gen cards to come out then upgrade to a 500 series.

Ok well Vmod diverted temporarily to quest for cooler climates

in-game performance of a gtx470 is much better though ... I have my 470 on water running the max clocks that Afterburner will allow me I'd say I get higher frame rates with the 470 in -game than I do with my 285's in SLI.

nice CL. i assume this has to do with the number of shaders?? i know thats what all the REAL power is about. iv already started saving for a new card. im looking at a 480 and then volt/cap mod and slap some sub zero cooling on it and let er rip.

I actually just picked up a MSI 460 Hawk Talon Attack to replace my 275

Not much of an upgrade but, $219 + $20 rebate, free shipping and for what I can sell my GTX275 for, I'm all for it .

AND I contacted Tigerdirect asking if I could RMA my card because BFG has gone under and no longer covering the lifetime warranty, and they replied for me to send it back, reguardless that I bought it in 2009, and if it is deemed defective they WILL replace it with a like spec'd card.

That is amazing, Tigerdirect and Newegg support have been VERY good to me, if you just ask nicely you would be surprised at what you can get.

Sooooo I'm kind of on the fence if I should just sell it, or RMA it to Tiger just to see what they would exchange it for...
