Yet another build advice thread

Thread Starter
Hi

Long story short, I bought the parts for a SB build just the day day before the sata failure reports, so my local e-tailer could not sell me the parts, and won't give me a refund.

so i'm stuck with choosing anPhenom II x6 or an i7 (1366) build

I use my pc for 3d modelling/rendering and gaming.

The AMD build

Phenom II x6 1055t
Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5
4*2gb Gskill Eco's (1333 CL9, but they are said to overclock pretty well)
Gigabyte 6950 2gb ( I can not use any Nvidia 400 and 500 cards due to a Opengl Issue with 3d modelling software, an 8800gt actually gives you greater viewport performance than a 480)
Viewsonic Vp2365WB (23 inches IPS panel)
Logitech g500

The Intel build

i7 930
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
6gb Gskill Ripjaws 1600 CL8
Viewsonic Vp2365WB
Gigabyte 6950 2gb

So, which do you think is the best build out of those 2, for a 3d modelling and Gaming rig?

Thanks for your advice!

Haven't sat on complete stability due to some cooling issues right now, but If I was to suggest one thing, I have the Gskill Ripjaws 7-8-7 1600mhz Memory and I've been very successful at 1700mhz so far. Its rated for Intel, but I can't imagine how. Very snappy memory. I do photo editing and I'm very satisfied with it.

The G.Skill ECOS 1600 7-8-7 overclock pretty well. The generic 1333 CL9 ECOs overclock just as well as every other generic 1333 CL9 kit: not much at all.
And that price point you could get a pretty decent 1600 CL9-CL8 kit.

I tried Blender and Maya 2011 on my system and on a friends system running a 930 and i have to say 930 seemed faster compared to my 1090t. I would suggest go with the Intel build if you are heavily into 3d modeling. Gaming wise i dont think you would find much of a difference.
