Yes, there are 5 Halo games. But there are 3 that are the main ones that follow the main storyline. If there were to be another Halo game (which I would personally love because Bungie just left us hanging at the end of Halo 3) it would be number 4. Not 5. That is why this is fake.
No, Reach is where it all started. Hardly a side story. It's history.

Think of it like the Fast and Furious movies. The third movie was Tokyo Drift and in it Hahn dies, yet he is seen in the fourth movie as still being alive, and also in commercials for the fifth. They simply buggered up the order because it was an afterthought to keep him alive.

There's a whole Halo book series out there. You can read into the life of the Master Chief in the book, where you find out that they were all trained on Reach.

It's a pretty interesting series if you ask me.

Is that like Rocky 33 advertised in some 90s satire movie?

ODST used the same engine as H3, so it's not Halo 4. Halo 4 was Reach. Most games follow that method of numbering games, a new engine build = a new number. GTA is another series that follows that system.

This reminds me of the number scheme for CoD series.

It's possible they are counting Halo Reach as the 4th game, although it is a perquel to the first game, and ODST is just an expansion pack to Halo 3.

This is all totally non-legit. First of all, chronologically, it goes like this.

Halo: Reach (2010)
Halo: CE (Halo 1) (2001)
Halo 2 (2004)
Halo: ODST (2009)
Halo 3 (2007)

Thats for the storyline part of it.

As far as I know, and I creep hard on this subject. Bungie is not planning on doing the Halo Franchise any longer, Reach was sold as their Flagship, "LAST HALO GAME". Ever since they joined forces with Activision (I think its Activision, it might be some other CoD company), they have been working on other titles, those titles aren't out yet, there hasn't been any rumors out, and there hasn't been any discussions at all on specifically what they are working on, besides fixing bugs (or IMHO, they should fix the entire game) for Halo: Reach.

NOW, 343 Industries is heavily rumored to be working on more Halo titles, (343 Industries is a subsidary of Bungie in some way) they are rumored as of right now to be working on somewhat remake of Halo 1, some say going to be a simple XBLAracde download, and will just be a new version of the old game, but in HD, some say the game is a totally new and fresh game but, still plays along the same story, and some say its going to be a sequel to Halo 3.

My opinion. I think that Bungie went way off the drawing board with Halo: Reach, they were trying to please the CoD fans with the Layouts or whatever they are called. IMO, it was a fail. I am a heavy MLG player, and I stopped playing Halo: Reach because it didn't take any skill to be good at it, a lot of it was luck when it came to actual gameplay. The Armour Abilities were just as fail-ish as the layouts. We need to go back in time to the first Halo, where it was just you, a storyline, and a gun. Which is exactly what I think 343 Industries is going for. Expect a late 2013 release.

I consider Halo: Reach to be Halo 0.

Ugh.

Halo should really be rebranded.
The series died for me at Halo 3.
