mATX Gaming Rig, budget of ~$700

Thread Starter
well, i tried my luck in the intel section and nobody really replied aside from one telling me i'd have better lucky building a good machine if i went AMD.

so here i am.

my brother recently got me an NZXT vulcan case as a gift, which i was going to use for an HTPC build but my tv no longer works. So, I figured I'd use the case for a nice gaming rig for my cousins.

they don't need an ultra powerful computer, just somebody good enough to play recent games at good settings. will also be used for school work and web browsing. would like to go with nvidia gpu this time around since i know ATi sometimes has trouble with their drivers and they live too far for me to fix anything for them. 500GB HD would be plenty since i doubt they'd even fill it up.

anyways, enough ranting. any help would be appreciated!

also, the 700 is strictly for the tower. monitor/kb/mouse will be provided by my brother.

I have a setup that would be great.

Phenom II x2 OC'ed (but not unlocked) or x4 925 (basically anything 95W TDP, 125W TDP not good for mATX boards) + Good mATX board (No low-end MSI or whatever) + 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM is all you need, considering their tasks will probably not need more than 2 cores.
First question: do you live near a Microcenter?
Secondly, OS needed?
Suggestion to follow

I'd say a 955, 890GX/FX chipset, 4GB 1600MHz RAM, GTX460/470/560/570, 650W PSU, 500GB Samsung F3, generic DVDRW.

No time to look up prices, sorry

toyz72: 955 + 4+1 power phase not very optimal, hard drive a bit overpriced there!
My suggestion:
Phenom II x4 925 + Xigmatek GAIA SD-1283 - $143

- $70 shipped (Click on "13 new from $67.23" for this price) [Amazon]
2x2GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600 CL9 + Corsair HX-650 - $145, $120 AR ($25, $15 AR RAM!)
Galaxy GTX 460 1GB - $185, $145 AR [TigerDirect]
Samsung F3 500GB - $45 shipped
Windows 7 home premium - $95 [Combo deal loophole]
Total cost before rebates: $683
After rebates: $618

OS needed, and they won't be over clocking anything. i have no idea of AMD CPU/MoBos so i wouldn't know what to pick. and nope, the closest microcenter is about an hour away. so it will all be newegg

ima put my 2 cents out there and say see if you can find some parts off of OCN marketplace and possibly find some god stuff. that build that "xd_1771" posted looks pretty nice.
