Safe Limits i7-950 OC

Heya, I'm really new to overclocking...new as in I started yesterday. I built my system about two months ago and just tried overclocking using the Intel Utility as a guide/gauge. The numbers I saw there after going into BIOS and using the "crazy" preset for my 950 concerned me. I'm just wondering if these are safe and will not cause significant degradation. Especially the 1.437 UVoltage If I'm not mistaken the numbers on the far right are the ones being used...

That looks fine, its less than what Im using.
Voltages are the only thing that can screw your system, Do you have a custom cooler on your CPU ?

Because if not, that overclock will get TOO hot.

Main points are
Voltage
Heat (tested with realtemp)
Stability (test with prime95, found in google)

Thanks for the quick reply bud, it's the stock cooling but I was monitoring during the stress test and it never got above 75C for more than a few sec. Should I still get a better cooler? Also just trying at 3.7 for now, I'll kick it to over four if I get better cooling and those stable volt numbers.

Looks fine. I would disable the "turbo" and run a 23 multi x 174.

You're temps will surely shoot past 80c with the stock cooler if your using p95, OCCT, LinX or IBT.

Stock HS for i7 950 is one of the most worthless cooler in my lifetime.

You want to overclock manualy through the bios, safer and more accurate, and you can set voltages, to keep within the limits. Mine is stable and safe voltages with 4.14 ghz, 1.3v Cpu voltage, 1.64 Dram, 1.2 IOH, 1.34VTT, 1.2ICH, 1.2 IOH CSI 1.9 PLL

Since your new, Until you have more experience.

1. Keep temps under 80 degrees If you can, 98 is max, after that it smells funny.
2.Keep CPU voltage under 1.35.

Until then its safe to play around, dont be alarmed if you get BSOD.

I spent 3 hours mucking around with settings.
Got my cpu up to 103 degrees celcius, and it still works biggrin.gif

Half of that was gibberish to me :/ I is noob. I understood the entering numbers manually through bios. Those are pretty well listed in the sabertooth x58 bios. And yeah, I suppose I'll reset my changes until I get a better cooler.
